Regarding a crate engine, I just looked up what a remanufactured Nissan 4.0 v6 would be for my Frontier. It’s looking like $3800-$4000 or so. So: what additional am I looking at to drop a truck off at a reputable mechanic, have him order the engine, install, and then I come pick it up with a nominal warranty?
Just looking for a data point. Roughly another $2,500. I picked mine up about two weeks ago. Jasper create 6.4 Hemi. $9,300 installed, or the door. 3 year 100,000 mile warranty.

That was a lot of money in 2012. I ordered a new ‘22 xl with the upgraded heavy duty suspension, gooseneck package, 6.7liter, 10 speed and paid $62k for it.

which they've frankly been these prices for 10-15 years, got nobody to impress anymore (don't lie to yourself, that's the real reason we buy them). Instead, I'm out here with a $80,000 bass boat Prices here were nowhere near these prices for the last 15 years. My current truck was 38k in 2017, it would take over 70k to replace it with the same model now. I buy a truck because I need it to enjoy my hobbies, not to impress anybody. IDGAF what anybody else thinks of my truck. As far as a boat, a small aluminum boat is far more useful to me because I use it to catch fish and that is all I need it for. One of the three greatest lies in humanity. It's anti-human, literally a "non thing" (it's not a construct, it doesn't exist) to "not care what anybody thinks". In fact, you want everybody to think you don't care what anybody thinks. It's a tough guy thing, but it ain't all that tough to not even know how the human psyche works. And you did not buy anything but a vinyl floor, manual window, steel wheel, stick-shift regular cab V6 or for $38K in 2017. That wouldn't even have been a stock truck at a dealer, they would've had to special order it. You can probably still buy THAT truck today for that.

Here's the deal.... If you're 40 and up on this site, you're in this thread bitching about the insanity of what trucks cost today (which they've frankly been these prices for 10-15 years). It feels like it wasn't all that long ago we were in our early 30's and hitting our stride, finally able to buy a nice truck. You could buy a loaded out Tacoma for upper $20's, and any nice full-size for upper $30's. Finance it 60 months for $400-$500 a month. I remember thinking (and STILL do) that a $500 car payment was apex insanity, it's what dumb and immature people paid for not being able to tell themselves "no". On the other hand, if you're 20's or 30's on this site, you've never known any different. Your whole adult life trucks have been $50-$60-$70K, 3/4 diesels have only ever been $80K. You truly have no concept that $1,000 truck payments aren't "normal". So you're on here saying stuff like "I work hard and I'll buy whatever I wanna buy", driving that 3/4 crew cab diesel AT4, paying $1,380 a month for 84 months. Then again, when us 40/50-somethings were in our 30's, we were making $40K a year doing the same things these 20/30-somethings are making 6-figures doing today. So I suppose it's all contextual. Helluva lot of young boys out there today making big dollas....they just ain't reached the age to be wise enough yet to regret spending it all on a @#%& truck. I could go out today and buy ANY truck on any car lot in America, but I'm 50 years old, been married 30 years, got nobody to impress anymore (don't lie to yourself, that's the real reason we buy them). But I'm driving a paid for 2012 4Runner right now and loving it Instead, I'm out here with a $80,000 bass boat I NOMINATE IKILLBUX FOR POST OF THE YEAR.

Just looking for a data point. 2010 F150 with a 5.4 here. I’m about to drop it off at a shop that’s going to put a deleted Jasper Motor in it. Deleted meaning it does away with all the cam phaser stuff that haunts this motor. Motor purchase, installed, 3 year/100,000 mile warranty is going to be $8,400.00.

You obviously have a different psyche than me and you are probably much younger than me. My truck is a tool to allow me to enjoy my hobbies. Once again, I don't care if you believe that or not. Here is the window sticker for my truck. If you don't think I was able to get this down to 38k and change with an advertised internet special in August 2017 with the 2018 models coming out then you should really get someone to help you when you buy a truck. They wanted to sell this truck badly. I don't have time to argue but I think anybody on here can see I am being truthful.

I bought a 2018 GMC sierra in march of 2019 loaded 57,000ish sticker price for $39,200 . I went to 3 dealerships offering that ( they were at 41,000-41,500) before the guy at the 3rd place said lemme get the paperwork . Drove it for 3 years and sold it for 43,000. ( both of the 2 other dealerships called back and said they would take 39k after I had already bought one)

Looking for a good used Tacoma 4x4 with decent miles and they r hard to find Yes they are, and priced almost as much as a new one. I keep looking at them and looking at my old 2001, then decide to keep driving the 2001. I don’t have to worry about scratching it and it serves my needs.

Crap I can’t find a decent looking 01-03 with less then 250k on it for under $9500 unless it’s got a rebuilt title.

I called BS and left. Got a call from the guy the next day telling me to come get my truck. The dealership owner came out and apologized for any trouble I had and thanked me for my business. That sales manager was no longer employed there shortly after that. My daughter is about to buy a new car. I told her if she wants a fair deal she has to be willing to walk away and leave the car there. They will call. Such a pain.
