Hardest kickinest dang shotguns along with a Benelli Nova.

935 was my first new shotgun, when they first got into the 3 1/2" category. Never fired a shot and returned it for a Super Nova. (After a good cleaning) it wouldn't seat a shell in battery (bolt wouldn't close), nor would it shuck said shell. Had to take it apart and poke the shell out from the business end with a bamboo stick. Took it back where I got it and 3 other of the same model did the same thing.

I do have a concerning wear pattern on all of my Mossberg 500's. I've bought used ones that had this wear, so I know it's not just me. The bolt lock gouges the receiver over time. I now keep the bolt lock well greased, and have considered rounding the edges off them with a sharpening stone.

I've learned not to use Winchester shells in my Mossbergs. The primers are too hard and the plastic is too soft. I've seen where people will cut a few coils off the firing pin spring to help out with hard primers, but that seems a little sketchy to me.

All this being said. I love my Mossbergs. Never had an issue with anything other than Winchester shells, and they're cheap enough that I don't mind abusing them.

I love my 3 1/2” Mossberg. Turkey killing machine. It’s been put thru hell and keeps on going just like the Energizer bunny.

I've killed a bunch of Toms with my old Mossberg, but I've never seen a shotgun that kicks as bad as it does.

Most time the hard kick is because it does not fit you properly try to lengthen your stock with a slip on pad of some kind it can make a big difference

They kick too hard

I've used Mossberg shotguns for forty years and have never had an issue with them.

3.5 turkey load out of a non ported 835, hardest I ever been hit.

My Winchester sxp turkey with a 3.5 mag definitely gets your attention!

This, way harder than the single shot H&R 10 gauge I had or a 300 WBY Vangaurd in wood.

^^^and I've shot pretty much every brand of shotgun made, and a bunch of hard kicking, big caliber rifles. The 835 with 3.5" turkey loads took the cake, dropped the mic and walked off the stage. I dont know if its the POS stock design on that gun or what but shooting the same load, an 835 kicks 40% harder than similar Remington and Browning pumps. Heck, Mossberg even owns it in their advertising description of the 835 (personal emphasis added) LOL.

After having a bunch of guns stolen from my house including several high end auto shotguns, I was in a bind before turkey season and found a used 935 that came with 2 barrels. One is polished and over bored or whatever you call it for turkeys. The other is a 28” regular barrel. The turkey barrel pattern is unbelievable with the gold choke that came with it. And I have killed a ton of dove and ducks with the other barrel. Been the only shotgun I have used for the last 8-9 years. Although one time I almost threw it into an Arkansas rice field because it wouldn’t cycle at all. Then I remembered that I swapped the barrels before I left the house and forgot to swap the gas piston with them lol. It’s been a great gun. It’s well used and still cycles great, as long as it’s put together right 😂

My wife now but girlfriend at the time bought me one for Christmas early 90s. One of the good ones that first came out. BTW the 835 name came from the bore size FWIW. Anyhow, I had some #4 shot and walked out behind the house and the slough was loaded with mallards feeding. Now, this is on Neely Henry before the grass screwed everything up. I slipped out of the basement, walked toward the dog pen and stepped out and they saw me. They took flight I shouldered the 835 and made one shot. My thumb hit my nose and I swear it was broke, I dropped the shotgun and there are 3 mallar4ds doing the crappie flop on the water. I was not even worried about the shotgun I went back into the house to make sure my nose was not crooked. I learned how NOT to hold that gun from then on. Shot 1000s of rounds out of it until I traded it off and got a Super X2.

My FIL has a beauty in his gun cabinet, old school bottomland. Mint! But I ain’t pulling it out. It’s in there for a reason…

The 18” barrel version will stomp you. But the hardest I’ve been hit was a 3” 20 oz turkey load in a Winchester 1300 NWTF edition. It’s the only turkey gun I wouldn’t shoot twice and I’ve shot bunch prior to TSS
