I’m here for probably my last hunt of the season. Gotta pack and load everything up today and get ready to head home in the morning. Looks like rain is going to move in this afternoon so it’s going to be a busy morning. I hate to see it end but I’m ready to get back home to my family. Also need to get home before Raven starves to death. My wife told she hasn’t hardly ate since I left. Crazy dog!! Good luck to all.

Looked at weather this morning and says big rain should be here in Pickens around 9:00. Already packed up and ready to go decided to go sit a tripod in a cutover greenfield that does frequently visit in the mornings. Poor stand choice on my part. Have a little store bought enclosure on this tripod but it has a tear on the plastic roof so with this drizzling rain it is dripping right on my head. Probably gonna call it a year and head to the house. I wanted one more doe but it’ll be ok. It’s been a great season for sure spent with my dad for sure.
Workin for the man, huntin when I can.

Sitting here with a friend’s kid - extended archery season in my area. Two does came in but they got nervous before her could get the scope on them. Gonna sit a while longer then have breakfast.

Tried to slip in a quick hunt before church. Hoping that big 7 we saw yesterday would show. At 615 a small 6pt trotted by cruising across powerline. At 620 I saw another deer at the bottom of the hill crossing the powerline. It was still pretty dim light and I had a little trouble identifying him. I finally got him to stop just before he got into the woods and was pretty confident it was him. I squeezed off a shot. He mule kicked and ran up in the woods and I lost sight of him. He didn’t bolt like he was slammed hit, just kicked and ran off. I waited about 10 minutes to calm my nerves and went to find him.
Got to the area where he was standing and no blood, no hair. I looked for an hour and found nothing. I backed out and called CNC. We’re gonna try him after church. I’m pretty bummed but maybe we will find him. Or maybe a clean miss.

I went to put corn in two spots for my son to try and seal the deal on a deer before season goes out this morning. I had one cross the road in front of me and just stop and look around like I wasn’t even there then casually walked off. I mean he done had bad bad thoughts running through my head. He had long tines, mass and width the whole package. Just glad to know that there’s one hanging around like that.

Got my son in a shooting house trying to get him one. Hopefully they will pay more attention to the corn pile than all the grunting going on. Hopefully the rain is loud enough they can’t hear the grunt call. He hasn’t figured out that more is not always better but hey you never know.

Good luck bamaeyedoc and CNC! Pretty sure he just zipped one across the back of his legs or under his brisket and the sensation of it caused the reaction from the deer.....That happens sometimes.......Otis sniffed around where the buck was standing but never hit on anything. No blood, no hair......and it was very open hardwoods where we were looking.
