Congrats on the kills! As TC would say, I’m at the salt mines today.

Just got in a ladder stand on a greenfield in some thicker pines. Had a few different mature bucks showing here randomly the last few days. Ended up seeing 6 on the morning hunt

This has to be the slowest rut I’ve seen down here at the camp. Usually Christmas week and week after they wide open but ain’t seeing much of it and nobody has killed really

In a ladder stand, in a spot that I don’t hunt much. Just an old logging road in some thick under story pines. Don’t have many options this swirling south wind. Hoping maybe a buck will push a doe around in here.

Wind is blowing pretty good this afternoon. Not where I wanted to hunt but with this wind about my only option. Shooting house in corner of a picked corn field. My food plot has disappeared with these single digit temperatures. It was looking pretty good but with a week of 60’s predicted it’ll recover.

Well hopefully we put something on the ground this afternoon. Austin and I saw 5 does a dawn and three bucks bucks this morning. The big deer wouldn’t come off the hill to the doe we were watching so she could get a shot. He stood up there grunted a few times then paralleled the ridge away from us. I should have shot him but I was hoping he would circle back around to us. Stephen saw 7 4 bucks and some does the biggest being a 2 yr old 8. Maybe a shooter will come by this afternoon for me or Stephen

Would walk over a naked woman to get to a gobblin turkey!

We’re in the shooting house and ready for a willing candidate. Emory is all sorts of fired up!!! I’ve been saving this spot for him, because the deer tend to come into this field within 50 yards of this shooting house. It should be pretty easy for us to see some deer. Killing said deer might be a different story!! The wind sure is shifty and this shooting house already smells like a blue raspberry Dum-Dum, but maybe we’ll get lucky 🤣

[Linked Image]

I had to get Emory to “sign” his own hunting license to make it “valid”

Well one buck already did it, just not the right one, hope that’s a good sign

Roof on my shooting house has caved in so I'm making do by sitting on the "porch" of the shooting house. It's been a good 'un; this shooting house is probably close to 25 yrs old. I was trying to hold off on rebuilding it until lumber prices come down but I guess I have no choice now. Just had 8 turkey appear out of nowhere and milled around in the patch for about 15 minutes. My nephew (USMC home on leave) is sitting in a ladder stand hoping to get his 1st kill before he heads back to Camp Lejeune Sunday.
