I have been told that you need to spray your yard in the winter to kill the damn stickers in the yard. What do I need to spray to kill them and the dang weeds. I have a big sprayer. Thanks in advance

Spray it with glyphosate. If you're going to cut the garden in the spring before planting, don't waste the money to spray.

Speedzone is a good product that will kill a bunch of broadleaves, and not terribly expensive. Tribute and Celsius are fantastic, but costly. A good PRE applied in September will help prevent many weeds. I recommend Specticle but it is expensive.

If you do the things you need to do when you need to do them then someday you can do the things you want to do when you want to do them.

I use 24d last winter and it really helped this past warm season. It made areas of the yard usable again. I'll be applying once more in January. I think most any broadleaf lawn safe herbicide will work. It's not hard to kill but has to be sprayed at the right time. Once they seed and you start getting stickers in your feet it is too late and your killing a plant that is about to stroke out in the summer heat anyway.

2, 4D has a residual life in the soil. I don't know how you grew anything in your garden other than corn.

OP is talking about his yard it seemed. If he wants stickers out of the garden, 24d may not be the first choice.

You're right. I completely misread the post. Sorry about that.
