Im thinking about hunting Autauga WMA Thursday and Friday during the gun hunt. I have never hunted on a WMA during a gun hunt how crowded can they get?

Never been to Autauga, but it can be hard to find a parking spot on gun days at other WMA's. That is something I will never do again.

Chocolooca was the worst I ever been on but that was 25 years ago, Hollins used to get crowded but I haven’t been on any of em in probably 10 years

Depends on the WMA and depends how early you plan to get there. When I used to hunt Choccolocco on most every gun hunt, I’d plan to be at my parking spot a couple of hours before daylight. That way I knew I’d get to hunt where I wanted to be. Not all WMA’s get the same pressure and I don’t say that to discourage you. Just know that gun hunts are going to have a number of folks hunting that property that normally don’t hunt there otherwise. Use the pressure to your advantage. A couple of the best hunts I’ve had in my lifetime came on gun hunts in WMA’s. Get there early. and sit as long as you possibly can.

Cahaba is awful. Or it used to be. I have no reason to think it’s changed.

If you can parallel park, you should be fine.

Do you have a blaze orange plate carrier? Could be useful.

I can't comment on the rifle hunts but for the few I get around on the primitive weapons hunts are extremely underutilized. Check out the public land doe post I had in the muzzloader forum. Now it was a warm Thursday afternoon at Autauga, but the biologist told me that I was the only one checked in on the app on the entire WMA that afternoon.

I hardly see anyone at Cahaba unless it is opening weekend or the rut... Then it's pretty crowded.

Also depends on season timing. For example, early season gun hunt vs rut gun hunt. Gun hunts during the rut have 2-3x the pressure that other gun hunts have in my neck of the woods.

This. I've been on just about all of em. There's a reason I access by boat 99% of the time.

The last time I gun hunted a WMA, I waited until lunch to go on the Saturday of the Iron Bowl. Between leaving the pavement and Pope's Tower, I counted 25 cars. I turned around and went home. (If you know where this is, it tells you how long ago this was.)

I saw about 10 trucks yesterday afternoon pulled off hunting, just about every other pull off had someone in it.

Yes they are starting to chase does at Cahaba, it was ridiculous. I had someone pop up at my first spot on the other side of clear cut facing me, walked to another spot till dusk and there was another truck parked, no idea where he was. A bit unsettling. I've never seen it like that there before. Hopefully that is as bad as it gets.

I may be at autauga Friday for a mid day hunt since it'll be so cold. Got a good spot for a nice long shot that I see deer most every time.

Plan on getting to where you want to park no later than 430am. It’s been a mad house this year where I hunt.
