What is overall consensus on this caliber? My wife is short 4' 11" and it is very hard to find a youth model to fit her. I can pick up a 350 legend at my local Walmart. Thinking it would be ok for what we need, kill deer at 100 yds. You can get 150,165 and 180 grain bullets. Interesting read on how this round came about.

They tear up a bunch of meat if you hit them in the shoulder. I'm about to do a european mount on one that when I skinned it I saw the shot tore the heck out of the front half. So, aim behind the shoulder. But, it is a killer. I think that is 3 or 4 for the guy that owns it. After seeing the performance Id have no concerns using a 350 legend.
Edit: I chose it every time over a 243.

I got a steel gong in the backyard. First shot with the 350 knocked the gong off. I was like “yep, it’ll do the job”.

Savage makes it on the Axis compact platform and may be a good fit for your wife. I have been considering switching over to the 350 from my Savage 220 slug gun. I have had zero luck finding Remington Accutips or any 20 gauge sabot for that matter, so it may be time for a straight wall solution.

So is this gun legal to shoot during muzzle loader since it is a straight wall cartridge? Same for areas that require a slug gun? No.

First hand experience here.... I was skeptical. I like a cartridge with some horsepower myself and I'm not into soft shooting really anything.
I used a Ruger AR in .350 Legend last season with some kids and they piled up some deer/hogs.
Now.. I'm NOT skeptical. I will have to admit I was impressed. Most deer/hogs have been DRT. I would say on par with a 30-30 which is also a well performing and very manageable deer cartridge for any grown ass man including kids and wives.
Shooting Hornady Factory American Whitetail 170's. I don't think the kids ever realized they were not shooting a AR in .223. Never mentioned recoil or anything just smiles ear to ear.
No government employees were harmed in the making of this mess.
