They pay more than that sometimes. A buddy of mine found an absolutely perfect translucent 4.5” Bulltongue Simpson a few years ago and a fella flew in from Texas and dropped $12,000 in his hand.

If I found an "arrow head" on my property I would probably keep it too. My best friend just turned 80 and he has quite a few Native American and Civil War relics, he is in the process of donating most of them to museums for posterity sake.

Irish-I am not into the burial digging at all, can't stand it. Farmland is top of my list, but hard to find stuff in no-till fields these days. I love walking a clear running creek. It just gets in your blood and it is hard to get it out.

There is also alot of difference in points and their values. Old stuff demands a great price. The differences in the values come from the rarieties of a certain point. May be length, material, craftsmanship, etc. It is kind like the difference between a Porsche and a Suzuki. The differences are obvious and you pay for the differences.

I have never bought but one relic in my life and I was with the boy when he found it. Twenty dollars and the pink, drilled bead was mine. This was back in the 80's.

I live in Florence muscle shoals area an have heard all the stories . Arrowheads an artifacts are very popular in my area. That’s how muscle shoals got its name from all the piles of mussel shells the early settlers found along river that the Indians eat . I was a mussel diver myself at one point in time when u could make $1000 a day if u had a good day . But regulations an too many people got involved in it . I have friends that would drag a home made har over the under water mounds at the trace bridge an loosin up the soil an the come back after current washed away dirt an find arrowheads. I got friend that got some 6” fluted cumberlands . Got a cousin that lived on river . During her life time she accumulated more arrowheads than the Indian mound museum. But all these people keep that to them selves . Nowadays major fine if caught digging on tva property. They have covered the edge of some islands with rock just keep folks from digging . I find lot of sites when dozing logging sites but nothing paleo . Most sites are from the woodland period . The arrowhead found looks more like a beaver lake than a Clovis or Cumberland to me, but still would be from the paleo period . Someone ask bout why some arrowhead worth more than others . Paleo is worth more because they older . Mostly over 10,000 years old an are very rare . Beaver lake an Cumberland are from that era. Most Cumberland s are fluted . Thats why they are worth more. I have lots woodland era rocks , less than 2k years old. Not worth much. Only one paleo from 40 years looking .

This was a typical conversation I had with my hunting buddies back in Texas.

Them: "Did you see any deer?".

Me: "No. But I found these two cool arrowheads!".

After the Tennessee River floods below G Dam, I can't tell you the number of boats I've seen beached on the banks and they are walking the shoreline.

As a young kid I went along with my dad, and a friend of his, digging under bluffs one day.

There was a large piece of rock that had apparently fell from the bluff ceiling and together they struggled to lift it up so they could dig where it was setting. Once they picked it up there were two perfect large heads laying side by side under it. They looked like tomahawk heads to me but seems like they said they were scrapers or something like that. Seems like they were ~5” long each.

It was pretty neat finding them just by moving a large rock.

As you can tell I’m not really into “looking under one big rock for a bunch of little rocks” , but dad loves it.

I’ll try to get a pic of the one dad kept and see if you gurus can identify it.

Here’s the other side after he washed it off. It was found in a dry creek/ditch in Madison County. Kid didn’t know what he’d found until people started trying to buy it.

I don’t know anything about these, but that is a pretty point. It’s impressive how symmetrical the knapper was able to fashion it and the proportions are nice.
