I’ve got a crossbow that i can’t get sighted in. It was a package deal and the scoop that came with it was always all over the place. I replaced it with a vortex scope thinking the package scoop was pos. Well it still won’t zero. What gives? Operator error or what? This is my first experience with a crossbow.

I don’t have a crossbow so my knowledge of them is very limited, but I know a guy that bought one for his wife several years ago and the problem was caused by the hex bolt that holds the bow to the gun being loose. Yours may be different but that’s something to check if you haven’t already.

Check ALL bolts, screws, etc. There is so much energy released when firing that they vibrate loose. I have a PSE and after several shots they will start loosening up.

It should pattern densely at 20 yards from a good rest. Start there.
Watch a bolt w/ a lumenock fired by someone else if you suspect
your bolts are not flying true further down range.

Make sure you’re holding it level. Cam timing could be off also. Are you using a cocking device or doing it by hand?

I had this problem with both my cross bows as well. Here is what I figured out. Check the paperwork for the scope it should tell you where the different scope markings are set up for. Most are 20 at the first dot. Get that range set dead on if it is off. Move your target to you were the next distance shows in the scope paperwork and see where you hit. If you are off I would not make adjustments for elevation. Move target to the next distance where the the arrow will hit dead center. I found that if you adjust scope for say 30 yds the 20 yds adjustment will be off again. I know it don't seem right but this has been my experience and I took a crossbow back to Cabela's and the new scope had same issue until I figured this out.

Wife has a Barnett Bow that second marking is supposed to be 32yds. It is actually 35 yds where arrow is hitting dead center. I tried to adjust for 32yds and I would get it set at 32yd then my 20 yd setting was off again. So that when I figured out to move the target to where the arrow would hit dead center and call it good. I chased my butt for hours one day trying to get the scope set, and yes I was using a good rest.

My 10 point bow is set 25 yds at first pin 35 second pin and 45 for third. The book shows different ranges but that's what it likes to shoot at those ranges. Hope that helps.

Cocking device.

Followed the instructions with the scope but still no luck. It said to zero at 6 and would be on at 40. I zeroed at 6 and was way low. Fooled around with it and it’s now way high, like 12” high. I adjust it down and it goes up. I adjust it up and moves slightly down. It’s frustrating me which doesn’t help😂

What brand crossbow did you get? Zero at 6 yds sounds strange to me. Most have you zero at 20 yds.

I’ve had 3. Zeroed them n at 20 yards and they were all still on at 40 plus using the different scope dots. Never heard of a six yard zero.

It’s a Rocky Mountain.

I added a vortex scope and that’s what said zero at 6

I would do a 20 yard zero. Scope height over the bolt will make a 6 yard zero impractical, regardless of what Vortex says. I tried a 10 yard zero on a 9mm carbine once, and it was shooting a foot high at 25. It's best to hold a couple of inches high for close shots.

I have a Sub 1 XR. It has a Hawk XB1 1.5 X 5 x 32 scope on it. I set it on 1.5 and zero it at 20 yds using the windage and elevation turrets. The 1.5 x matches 250 fps and 5 x matches 425 fps . I moved the target to 30 yards and used the 30 yard line in the scope. Then I set it to around 410 fps the rated speed of a Sub 1 XR it shot a little high so I move it to about 415. It was dead on. In order for the range lines in the scope to work you can't adjust the scope it has to remain fixed power after that. I haven't shot it past 50 yds but anything from 0 to 50 It is good. All adjustments were made per scope manual instructions.
