Would this mean that 1 board, 8 ft long would be 10 dollars each just to cut it?.... shocked

Did you know that Beer Nutz are over a Dollar...and Deer Nutz are under a Buck...

Not reasonable at all. He may be charging a big premium for handling and sawing just one Walnut log .

Cost should be somewhere in vicinity of .30 to .50 per bf to saw with you bringing log to mill.

Edit- trees that come from around a home place have high chance of nails or other items that will damage a mill. If this is where your log is from, then I see why price was inflated.

Good point about yard trees having metal . Mills up here will kick them out and not saw them.

I've had one walnut milled, but have another small one to cut at a friend's house. Its only about 10-12" diameter, so I'm thinking of trying to cut it with a reg. band saw. Do you think a metal detector could be used to check for nails, etc...?

Yes Sir. May want to roll it to go at it from about 3 angles . Walnut is dense and your hand held detector may not be strong enough to go all the way through. Saw mills have big ones that the whole log goes through.

Thanks for all the info. My patients paid off I was all in for $1.00 a board ft. Glad I listened to y’all guys. I had it cut very reasonable price .38 aboard ft. . Ended up being within 2 miles from my house.

It’ll take 10-12+ months to dry I’ll stack it with slats between it under a open shed with weight on it.
