Muzz caught up to another one with a broke front leg. Was a ladies first buck but we couldn't talk her into getting in the picture.

Got one to go look for in the morning…….No blood, no hair but has the deer on video and said it looks like a good hit. Shot with a 6.5 Grendel…… Really nice buck

About to head out there now......they wanted to wait until the other hunters got down this morning.

No luck on my track........I watched the video and it really didnt look hit to me. The deer jumped a little at the shot but didnt look hurt when he ran off. There was no sign of a hit and the dogs didnt indicate on anything. The hunter was filming it with some kind of scope that allows you to record. Right at the shot his crosshairs dipped down pretty dramatically. I think he may have just shot under the deer.

Had a interesting situation unfold on a track today……I was letting my lab follow along behind Otis…..All of a sudden she peeled off from the track and went her own way which is not uncommon for her right now……I didn’t think much about it but about the time she got 100 yards out from us I heard a deer start bawling….”Maaaaa!!!......Maaaaa!!!!.....Maaaaa!!!!”……We ran to her and when we got there she had this fawn caught by the neck…..I didn’t notice any other visible injuries other than what she did to it but it was very small for this time of year. It probably weighed 30-35 lbs…..I grabbed it by the back legs and picked it up with one arm without a whole lot of trouble. This was definitely a first for us…… The hole in front of her nose is where the hunter finished it off with a knife....It was too far gone at the point to do anything else

Tracked one this morning that was shot facing the hunter at about 150 yards……Deer hit the ground and flopped then got up and ran off. We tracked to where he had gotten down in the creek and wallowed around then up onto the side of the ridge where he had bedded twice…..That’s where he jumped and took off. I let the dogs go after him for a short distance but we were in a small area with roads close by so I had to call them off pretty quick. Not sure it would have mattered anyways.

Goes to show you that deer aren’t a match for coyotes at all! I’m a little puzzled that the lab caught it that easily! No telling I guess!!!

I think something was wrong with it or maybe it was weak for some reason....,,She caught it nearly instantly, there wasnt much of a chase if there was one,,,,,Its coat looked really rough and it was very small for this time of year.....Maybe it got orphaned to soon and wasnt surviving well on its own,,,,,not sure.......but you're correct about the coyotes and that's exactly what I was thinking when I posted it.

Ar1220……..I had my goober head hunter for the year stand me up today. I almost made it through the year without someone doing it. Called me mid-morning and said he’d shot one an hour or so earlier and had big wads of white hair at the hit site. Said the deer was quartered to him slightly and he ran off favoring a back leg. I told him he had likely gut shot him and we needed to give him some time. I said that I was going to help a buddy look for one he had shot with a bow 4 miles down the road from him and I’d come to him as soon as I finished it up. We planned on meeting around 2:00. He said ok sounds good, just call me when you head this way…..

Well, as we were getting done searching for my buddies deer I tried to call him just to let him know we were about finished and I was about to head his way…….no answer……waited a few minutes and called again…..no answer……..finally called a third time and he answers saying…..”Hey buddy!!.....We already got him…..I called another tracker and they came out and found him….I got your number though if I ever need somebody.”

It is what it is and just part of it but that irritates the chit out me for folks to do that.

Oh I had one the other night that tops my other one and that one. I'll have to tell you about it sometime. But the short version is this cat calls after he shot 12 hours earlier. Telling me I need to bring a bay dog and what not he ended up hanging up on me. 3 days later he calls back wanting something but I didn't answer

All in all I cant complain too much......Its been a good season and the vast majority of hunters have been a pleasure to help.

Well I was furious last night so didn’t post but no luck. I’ve got to do some work on Riggs before next year. He’s not putting it together on some tracks and I can’t figure out why.
