I was wondering what type of anchor system everyone uses for the tripod deer stands? I was thinking about going with some auger anchors and steel cable. Then I seen some anchors and straps but I wonder if the squirrels will chew those straps up.

I’ve done the auger anchor and a heavy duty 2” ratchet strap. Never had squirrels mess with one but these were also generally placed in clearcuts and such. Not in the woods.

Anchor under it in the center. Just use a ratchet strap.

as mentioned above .. 1 long screw type anchor in the center with 1 ratchet strap / turnbuckle is plenty

All mine have a hole in each leg. I drive a piece of rebar about 18” long in each leg. I weld a nut on top of the rebar that is larger than the hole in the tripod leg.

I'd use an auger anchor with a cable and a turnbuckle to tighten it.....just as long as the ground was stable enough for the auger anchor you're using

If you were really wanting to do it correctly, I would think there would be a certain amount of lbs of tested pull that your anchor needed to resist to be legit safe

These work great. Drill them in with a heavy duty cordless impact wrench then thread the eye bolt into the anchor through the hole in the foot plate. Easy day.

Like the others, I used screw in anchors, I went to tractor supply and got the size for anchoring storage buildings, mine was in the open, You would have a hard time doing that in the woods with all the roots. If its in the woods you would have to get some big stakes like they use on circus tents and drive them into the ground.

I really appreciate all the input. If the rain misses us then I'll set up this week with the auger anchors and straps or steel cables. I seen Academy has a 8' cable with anchor for $19.99.

This will work as long as the ground is not rocky, full of roots or just rock hard. I tried to anchor some shooting houses with a similar anchors. No luck. It’s been really dry in Northwest Alabama. The ground was to rocky and hard.

I had to buy a heavy duty Kobalt impact drill to get them to work. A regular cordless drill is useless for these. This was in Barbour and Henry counties and pretty rocky tough ground.

Similar to above. We use mobile home anchors and a long ratchet strap in the middle of the tripod. Works great.

Guy at my club pounds in a T bar post, and uses a rope to secure his shooting houses. Says he has never had one tipped over.
