Me, wife and kid saw one that made that one look like a teenager. I ran it over a few times and it took off into the grown up ditch. I left him alone and felt bad about it. I ran him over a few times thinking I could kill it and toss it in the trunk. He was on an old road off Hobbs Island Rd close to the speedway. I took pictures on my flip phone but don't have them anymore. I should have went into the woods down the road and found a stick and beat it to death. I wanted his hide real bad. I had just gotten off work at Saint Gobain. Showered at work. Had flip flops and shorts on and it was about 730pm getting dark. No flashlight. No gun. Nothing. I didn't think long enough before acting. My adrenaline was running when I got out of the car to take pictures. I read where they can strike 1/3 of their length or more. I blew that situation. Not many people can believe they get over 6ft. This snake was way longer than me and I'm 6ft 2in. I grew up in South Huntsville, and back in the 90's to early 00's we would get giant rattlers. I saw a few that were over 6ft. There was one on the road that was at least 7ft. We ran it over and took a good look at it. I haven't seen a biggun like those in decades though.

6’ Timbers are next to nonexistent. That one isn’t 6’. It’s easy to say one is until the tape gets pulled. Kind of like that wall full of 140-150” deer until the tape shows up. 😂 (For those of you with a legit wall like that I’m not talking to you)😜 Yep...estimations suck when emotions r involved...I'm not calling anyone a liar tho just in general

I’d say 5 to 5 1/2 ft maybe. I’ve seen two bigger in person down this way Hopefully they’re no longer roaming around

I was going north down Brindlee Mtn on 231. Across from the post office at Lacey's Springs from the east side of the hwy a rattlesnake came out on to the hwy. He easily covered 2/3 of the hwy and got into the median. I pulled over into the median and followed him. He went about fifty yards then crossed back to the east side. This was the same time and the same area as mentioned above.

I haven't seen them in decades. They may be extinct in the area now, probably because we ALWAYS killed them. They were fat, slow and quite easy to kill. Just don't approach a coiled one. A rattler that size has enough venom to kill you with a warning bite.

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen a 6’ canebreak rattler. I saw it in Ware County Georgia laying across a 6’ (measured) chip trail near Laura S Walker lake. I’ve not seen one close to that size since then. About 4-5” of its body was off the trail on both sides. I’ve not seen one over 4 1/2’ since that one.

I thought giant rattlers were common knowledge in Alabama. I killed a 4ft timber in my dad's back yard a few years ago. Afterwards we were talking about how those little ones are more agile than we're used to. If I knew I was slaying mythical beasts, I probably would have captured them lol.
I joke on the forum about loving snakes and such, but I'm serious about this. I grew up off of Green Cove Rd. We would usually find them up on the hill where Green Cove Rd turns into Bailey Cove Rd. Those hills work their way over to the Huntsville Speedway. Brindle Mountain is similar terrain, and directly across the river.

Saw a gray rat snake in the road in Nixburg, Coosa county. His head was on the white line on the other side of the road and his tail was in Clanton. All joking aside, he did cover a little more than half the county road. David

I have seen ONE Timber Rattler that reached 6 feet. Killed in Whites Swamp while digging out a road. Right on 6 feet and had a lot of rattles(Idon't real the number). The one that bit me was a hair over 5 feet and my two hands lacked an inch of closing around her belly. I had the skin of a 6 1/2 foot Diamondback years ago, killed near Pensacola Fl, 1960's.
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

Speaking of Timber Rattlers, I killed one this morning I thought would go 6 foot 6 but the tape said 4' 4". He was a mean one .
