So how would one defend Taiwan? Seems like you would have to maintain air and sea perimeter. That’s the thousand year question. My answer is “you won’t”

Hank Johnson said you could not put to many troops on it. Don't want it to tip over like Guam Not sure who the military leader was in that video but man he gets the award for keeping a straight face.

So how would one defend Taiwan? Seems like you would have to maintain air and sea perimeter. Defending is much easier than invading. Only a small part of Taiwan is favorable terrain to land infantry. They might try paratroopers like the Russians attempted, but that will likely have the same results of simply wasting some of their best soldiers. China also will have to stage for an invasion an absolute minimum of two months before and will be very visible to our satellites, so a sneak attack isn’t on the table. Very likely China isn’t feeling very good about crossing a hundred miles of ocean with only two actual troop carriers and the rest with vessels poorly designed to land troops with after seeing Russia’s failed invasion of Ukraine. Russia hasn’t been able to reliably support their military thirty miles from their border with less distance and easier terrain. China also has zero battle experience other than a few dozen soldiers bordering India using melee weapons. Taiwan has been arming itself with our help for quite awhile and is better prepared to fend off China than Ukraine was against Russia. Russia and China both have the mentality of throwing metal and meat against their enemies, but when they’re faced with even late twentieth century weaponry it isn’t a slam dunk victory even against a smaller opponent. China is good at consistently running their mouths with zero action. Pelosi just punked them out and gave them the finger and they won’t do anything but complain. I hope when we get a real president, we officially recognize Taiwan and be done with this drama.

Here’s the thing. China cannot afford the US to stop buying its junk. On the flip side we can’t do without their junk. We don’t manufacture enough here. So all this is just a big dick contest between a bunch of idiots. The good thing about globalization is: Everybody needs everybody. The bad thing about globalization is: Everybody needs everybody. If you watch much Peter Zeihan he will tell it like it is, and that is, the US is pretty much the only country that can exist totally as an island. Well, we need Canada and Mexico, but other than that we don't need anyone else to survive as a nation state. We have farmland, people, natural resources, and a vibrant economy and system of government. If the US decides to pull out of everywhere countries like China and Russia will collapse. Matter of fact they are already dying and they just don't realize it yet. Well... Maybe they do. This war with Ukraine is literally killing Russia's future. They already didn't have a large enough population of young people to survive before the war and now look how many have died. Basically all Russia has is oil and a lot of really cold places. Their oil pipelines to China are already maxed out, and they don't have the infrastructure or the shipping to sell them anymore. A similar thing is going on in China. Despite the country being physically large, and like Russia, only a small portion of it is arable, livable land, and the rest is a giant desert. This coupled with the small relative number of young people due to the failed period of the one child policy, and the lack of indigenous oil is all going to combine to do them in. If both of those countries know they are on the decline, they may lash out as a final attempt to prove the superiority of their failed systems. But neither one has a blue water navy and no way to get a large force enough force over here to do anything. Russia and China are dead men walking.
