Freon has been sky high forever. Used to be pretty cheap a good while back. I’d like to know what the true cost is. Gotta be 2000% markup by the time it gets to consumer.

The increases began when Duponts patent ran out. There was no issue with any of it, and then all of a sudden Dupont "discovered" it was bad for the environment. Just so happens they had developed a version that wasn't as bad 🙄

The campaign contributions and kickbacks are counted and deposited and wallah, "Old style Freon is so bad for the environment and green movemnt, so lets get our unelected bureaucrats over at the EPA to gin up some new regs to help those dupont boys out with their problem."

In freon to refill after 1 of the compressors on my 300 ton chiller blew chunks! And that is discounted. I have 3 compressors. 2 circuits. Right now only 1 circuit is running. We had 10 2000 Ton centrifugals when I was working for Google 😳 I don’t miss anything chiller related What do you do for a living, or use it for? And what refrigerant was it?

When my dad, who was in the commercial refrigeration business set all our freezers up with R502. He sold several hundred pounds of it ten years ago after being sought out by meat packing company up north, all I remember cash money deal was over a 100K. Very happy he left a couple partial 100lb cylinders for us.

I remember as a kid R12 was so cheap my grandfather aired up my flat bike tires and kept a tank in the back of his ford truck in case his tires were low.
Yep. A friend of mine’s dad was in the refrigeration business. We aired up lots of four wheeler and dirt bike tires with R12.

I manage the finances, facilities and IT of a non profit. I believe it uses R12. All I know is the sucker will chill water down well below 44 degrees on a 100 degree day, and in the software it says it can make ice. I love managing the chiller. Can't wait for the new controls to get here.
