I'll probably have the opportunity to hunt some land in this area this year. I know about the hotels in Thomasville and the cabins near Camden. Anywhere else to stay near there?

We hunted there in the early 90's and this area on the Alabama River had the most deer I have ever seen in my life. I was a bowhunter at the time and I wore out an Oneida Aeroforce on hogs and deer hunting there! It was a target rich environment if there ever was an area!

We had a camphouse we stayed in that was a long way (over a mile) from the road that we stayed in. It was simply a lot of work to steal something here and have to tote it home! Others around us were not as lucky and things came up missing alot. I would make sure to always keep everything out of sight that I could, making it harder to present an opportunity for the numerous thieves that are crawling all over the area. Folks there just flat dont care who it belongs to and will steal it even if they dont need it.

Be careful there, always carry, and make sure to have a game hauler to get the deer out. As a side note, the motel in Thomasville was always a nice place for us to stay when the weather was hot. I have no idea what it is like now, but it used to be clean and safe.

Hope this helps.

Hunt in the area and haven’t secured a camp yet. Spent a weekend ina house in Camden we found on AirBnB. Wasn’t a bad deal.

Previous cautions were correct. DO NOT leave your truck parked by the road when hunting. Don’t know where you’ll be coming there from, but if you’re SE of there I’d not risk going through Lower Peach Tree on your way. If you do, have good tires on your truck and trailer, plenty of gas, etc etc. There are no good places to break down but there aren’t many a whole lot worse than there. Downtown B’ham or Jackson MS maybe.

Thanks for the information guys. I didn't know if there may be any cabins hidden away in that area. From Aldeer and word of mouth I've heard the area can be rough. I assume it's best to pull stands, feeders, etc. during the off-season but do they normally make it through the season? I know each piece is different.

Have you been in contract with the people who had the lease before you. Rough means this is my hunting grounds, deal with it.

One of my friends has lot land in that area. They use to hav a camp within a 100 yards of road and it would get broke into. His camp now is way back in the woods and they hav no problems - but the land closer to the black top still gets walked on yearly by uninvited guests

We used to have to sit in the trucks while our dads went into the store to prevent theft. Always had a shot gun propped on my shoulder lol. I killed the first buck I ever had mounted
in Lower Peach Tree when I was 13.

You’d be best off to pull your stands and feeders anytime you come and go. The “locals” hunt all that property anytime they want, whether youre there or not. If they run across a stand or feeder, they will take it with them. They honestly will steal anything they can get their hands on and are strong enough to tote.

I forgot to mention, but the first and only alligator I have ever seen in the wild was in one of the back sloughs on the tract we had leased. He was laying on top of the water and looked just like a huge log. When I made good eye contact with him and realized what he was, he very slowly sank into the water and was gone. I promptly turned and trotted back to higher ground and called it an evening. This was the first time I was ever eye to eye with something big enough to kill me in the wild.

We had a place in Lower Peachtree for 3 years (97-00). It was private land owned by a family friend. Good hunting, but rough area. Our camp was way back in the woods off CR 35 so it was never broken into, but we had another tract off CR 1 and had several things stolen out of trucks while hunting that tract. We used to always joke that we heard more shots at night than during the day, which I hear is still true. I drove CR 35 to LPT back in Feb and 35 may be one of the worst roads I've driven. Better keep a good spare tire!

270wsm, that is the same time we hunted that area. We had the big slough all the duck hunters on the river wanted to pull into and shoot ducks off us. We were WAY off the road and never had any trouble with breakins. The Game and Fish Department also had a big bust on folks hunting out of season there in 90'. If I remember correctly they were selling venison to restaurants and locals. I sure miss the good ole' days of hunting there though. Our deer never had good racks. They always had one good side and one goofy side like a small spike growing out of it.

I’ve been thinking the same thing. No way I’d tolerate that or risk putting my self through it. Not worth it. Hunt somewhere else.

Ah heck. Shoot me a pm and I’ll give you my cell number. Call me anytime you have an emergency - I’ll come help you. I respect the area but ain’t scared of the locals. Work in that area regular. You just have to be smart and be mindful of how they operate.

As far as lodging - there’s really nothing. Unless you know somebody that knows somebody where you could put a camper.

If you don’t turkey hunt - hit me up as well thumbup
