Did you add any fertilizer? Sounds like they may possibly be lacking in P&K..... \ I didn't add any fertilizer at all, a little epsom salt early on....I was afraid to prune them or cut them back to much.... This is likely where your issues are stemming from......Producing flowers and fruit requires a good bit of K.....

For fertilizer, I put a handful of an organic chicken manure based fertilizer like a 4-7-5 in the hole with a handful of gypsum. Once they started flowering I used something like a 18–18-18 or 20-20-20. Every 10 days or so after I soaked the ground around the plants, about a gallon per plant. Thanks for sharing, I will try that when I replant....
