I know you turkey folks think this is blasphemy, but I need to kill this wild chufa that’s taking over my garden. I have gone to a no-till garden the last several years and this stuff keeps coming back, worse year after year. Round-up won’t kill it. Guess I’ll have to wait until the garden plays out this year and get aggressive with it. Tarp over it? I’d rather not buy a 2.5 gallon bottle of some fancy weed killer for 250 square feet of garden. Other ideas? I posted about this before, but can’t find it.

That's likely Yellow Nutsedge. I fought it for years because I didn't want to spray Sedgehammer in my garden. I finally gave up and built raised beds. I still had a little grow through the heavy groundcover in the bottom of the bed and through 15" of compost. One pulling up of each has either finally starved the nut, or it's just laying there waiting on next spring.

Thats not your garden spot, that spot belongs to the nutgrass. Youll have to find you another spot. If you keep messing with it youre gona piss it off, then things will really get ugly

Outrider or Sedgehammer are the best you will find on it. Both do have a little soil residual, but if you go late this summer and don’t do a winter garden, it should be fine for spring.

Just a FYI, but chufa is a different plant from that. That is just yellow nutsedge; it's usually called nutgrass around here. It ruins a chufa field if it gets established in it.
