I believe those heads are bi-polar. They can be great, but sometimes they can be terrible.

I've heard good and bad about the Rage's. I shot a doe Saturday with the ole trusty Muzzy 100's, hitting her a little low, and she only ran 40 yards. Until I have a reason to change I'm gonna use the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" philosophy and stick with the Muzzy's. Just my twocents

I wannna know what happens with them when you screw up like we all do sooner or later and make a direct hit on that shoulder blade????? A strong fixed blade will USUALLY punch through. What about a Rage???

Ask Squeaky he was all fired up about Rage until it cost him three nice bucks up north after hitting them in the shoulder and got NO penetration. He switched to a different broadhead. I shot a doe with the 3 blade Muzzy saturday and got an awsome blood trail. Just depends on where you hit the deer and the angle of the exit wound as to the blood trail it leaves.

I have shot Muzzy three blade 100 gr for years. I tried expandables one year and went right back to the Muzzy. I shot a big Northern Buck a few years ago and hit him square in the shoulder. It went through that shoulder and the oppisite shoulder as well. He only went about 60 yards. I have also heard good and bad about the Rage heads. I do not think any expandable head would have done the job the Muzzy did on that buck no matter what brand it was. The problem I had with the expand. was not getting a pass through. If the deer was perfectly broadsides you would get them, if not you wouldn't. Anohter friend of mine shot them the same year I did and toghter we hit 16 deer with them and found 12 of them. We both try to take only perfect shots, usualy under 20 yards. Three of the six I shot did not have pass throughs and bled very little. I saw two of them go down or it would have been tuff tracking. My thought is taht no matter how you try you will not always get a perfect shot, something always seems to go wrong at the wrong time. If you make a less than perfect shot with a fixed blade head you will get more and better penetration almost every time in my experience. I saw this last year on a hunt with a buddy. He hit a buck to far forward and hit the shoulder. We looked and looked for the buck. He bleed very little for about 30 yards and that was it. We found his arrow and it had the broadhead and about 2" of arrow broken off!(he was using expandables, not Rage's though). We never found that buck. If you are going to use them take only perfect broadside shots! This is after 25 years of bowhunting (man that makes me sound old, I started when I was 16). Just my twocents

Bad hits result in lost deer no matter what broadhead you are using.

Also know that some outfitters will not let you use expandables if you hunt with them. This alone should tell you something!

Yes Hogwild I know this. All I am saying it that when it comes to shots to far forward /shoulder hits I think you will almost always come out better with a fixed blade. I can see where a expand. blade like the Rage might be better if the hit was to far back. You would still get penetration and a bigger whole. Myself, it seems like I hit them more forward than I do to far back. Given that I will stick to my Muzzy's, they seem to get the job done for me (always have). If you fill good about using expad. then use them. I am just giving my twocents

I have shot 3 blade, 100 gr Muzzy's for years. I have lost a few deer with them, mostly to bad hits. They are fine broadheads, no doubt!

My thoughts are kinda like yours. If I hit a deer a little far back, a 2" hole is better than a 1.25" hole. Almost twice as good! But, if I hit forward, yeah, I might not get a pass-thru busting both shoulders. BUT, an arrow flopping around in the heart WILL result in death. And, the heart is right between the shoulders (a little low, but it is right there.)

I may change my mind later, but the accuracy provided by the Rage surpasses my concern for a lack of penetration right now.

Im with you topcat223, I tried expandables a few years back and I dont think I will ever shoot anything but a Muzzy. As a matter of fact I did my part in controlling our doe Population at the club this weekend with a couple of said muzzys.

It's not the will to win, but the will to prepare to win that makes the difference.

i shot a 124lb doe @ 35yds in the shoulder with a rage 2 blade 3-4 years age. i hit her dead center of the on shoulder bone. it passed through and came out the back side of the off shoulder and buried up in the ground. she ran 25yds and fell over dead

at tara, they strongly recommend using rage broadheads. it is the only expandable head they will allow you to hunt with while there

I have hunted TARA and the only reason they let you use RAGE is because of Dream Season and the sponsership money from RAGE. Not a knock against RAGE broadheads, just the facts.
