I belonged to two hunt clubs in Barbour County and hunted turkeys HARD for over 10 years. While I admit to being a mediocre Turkey hunted at best, I bagged ZERO gobblers in 10+ years in Alabama . On the other hand, I’ve hunted turkeys in the Thumb of Michigan for the last 7 years, and have gone 7/7 on gobblers. I firmly believe that Bama gobblers are genetically smarter than Yankee gobblers. Granted, I hunt on some prime private land, and the guy I hunt with is a real Turkey Whisperer. He lives in Huron City Michigan and as a local guy he knows ALL the largest farm owners in Huron County. He is an avid coyote hunter, and the local farmers grant him permission to hunt turkeys in return for him killing over 100 coyotes per year off their properties.
Am I delusional in thinking Bama gobblers are just plain smarter than their northern cousins?

If I could hunt 5 or 6 of those yankee farms I feel I could give you an honest evaluation.
What weekend should I come? This is the only way to give accurate feedback. I’ll even get CNC to make you a chart that represents my findings.

Yes, southern birds are smarter and harder to kill than dumbass yankee birds. It’s a learned behavior from those around them. And now Huron County will be invaded by turkey murderers from the South.

I have some buddies that go to Michigan every year and hunt turkeys with their recurve boys. They say that’s the only challenging way to hunt them. He said they stupid up there and are everywhere. No sure what part they go to but they kill every year.

Of course I know a no turkey killing coonass that killed a limit of Rios in Texas. No comparison to the beatings I took from the turkeys on our place in Monroe County when we had turkeys.

If you can consistently kill birds anywhere in AL, MS or GA then you can kill them anywhere in the world. Exactly Matt. I tell people here you dont have to worry going after Mid West gobblers , Rios or Merriams if you can kill them in Bama. Youll have no problem if youre on ground that holds them.

If you can consistently kill birds anywhere in AL, MS or GA, in big timber without a decoy or fan, then you can kill them anywhere in the world. Fixed it for ya.

The guys at JC wanted me to say hi Bud and to tell you they missed you. The turkey hunting is still tough but a few have been killed. Wallace got his first bird this season and it is was a nice double beard. I lucked up and limited out in 6 days. Give us a shout sometime.
