The look of college football/sports is drastically changing with NIL monies and the transfer portal. There needs to be another breakaway of the top teams, it has gotten overcrowded in the D1 league. They broke away in the 80's, then let the also-rans back into it. Then, they can make their own rules and actually get an enforcement tool. The NCAA is a joke.

I’m a Bama fan and think if Saban feels that way then why doesn’t he pay them out of his pocket? Not only him but any other coach that feels that way. Stand out talent are the money makers. Why should a player that doesn’t play in a game make the money someone that’s getting beat up every game make? They—NCAA—created this mess and its not going to get any better unless they do something to fix it. If you’re not on one of the top 10 teams (if that many) you’re playing for a shot at the NFL or the love of the game. I guess a free scholarship isn’t worth being part of the team unless you’re making cash along with it. It’s sad that the days of underdogs having a chance at winning it all are all but gone.

College sports is very much like socialism...The top 2 or 3 sports (all men's sports) pay the way for other sports to even operate.

It’s no longer amateur athletics as soon as you’re paying the athletes. Cut out the scholarships and let the best players get paid enough to cover their tuition. Then let’s see how good the rich kids are at filling in any gaps. Also, we’ll see who can keep from OD’ing the week after their checks come in. It’s all rubbish now. Time to quite daddy ball in city paid for parks under city paid for electric lights. If it’s all a business now let the NFL / agents / advertisers foot the bill for all of it from park ball to the pro’s. Maybe the association of juvenile orthopedic medicine will take notice of their revenue losses and petition the government to halt the NIL slush money.

Saban is the greatest college coach of all time. That’s mainly because he could have total control and his process works, no matter how bad you hate him you can’t deny that. This new stuff is chaotic, there’s no order or reason to anything so he will probably struggle for a few years like he did in the NFL. What’s disappointing to me is that fans are so sick of Saban and Bama winning all the time they’re going to be ok with all of this in hopes it knocks them off the mountain top. Reality is and history says this is just a bump in the road and once he dials in the process to account for this he and Bama will remain on top.

You can agree with players getting paid for their talent, while not liking what it turns the sport into. I think players should get paid their worth, but it’s going to ruin the sport. Both are probably true.

I know I'm going to be in the minority on this, but college athletes, especially football players, ought to be paid. I'm not necessarily talking about average players at inferior schools, but top tier players who are generating revenue for their programs absolutely should be paid. Those boys are literally putting their life on the line playing ball for a college degree that is basically worthless to them. Programs like Alabama and a lot of SEC programs are filled with NFL talent, and they're generating millions of dollars of revenue for their universities. Why shouldn't the true talent that generates this income be rewarded?
