You don't need one for Wheeler.

Never seen a hog on the south side. Hunt the north side between 31 and 65.

All you need is a hunting license and there permit. I've never seen any on the south side of the river. A worker at there viewing center told me last year that there are some on the very south side of flynt but that most of them were on the Limestone county side north of the river and west of 65 but I've never tried. Had a Federel game Warden that is assigned to Wheeler tell me Saturday that there aren't hardly any left that they had died off and gave some name for it. I don't know if he was just messing with us or what but thats what he said.

While I hardly beleive them being gone. I havent seen near as much pig sign as I used to. But I havent hunted wheeler nearly as much as I used to.

I have seen them in years past from behind the airport almost to the decatur bridge and also have heard of them being up flint creek near hartselle.

Good luck getting them critters to sit still long enough for a shot. laugh

Double-check your map permit for any off-limits and non-hunting areas, such as around the visitor's center on 67.

I believe parts of the refuge will go off-limits to human encroachment during duck season, too.

The main hog sign in the last few years has been west of 65 and south of 31 ... I believe the road by the gas stations on 31 is called Lone Pine Road and you can access some refuge land there. Hunters I've talked with said they've seen more in that area than anywhere.

Let us know how you fare.
