The price of seed is up, fertilizer is up ~400%, etc. If I were a farmer I would sell off a bunch of beef, then hold on to some breeders. Buying feed seems like it is going to get really expensive.
I expect would the price of beef to stabilize or maybe drop, then go sky high ~October-ish.
Anyone have any thoughts? Hopefully someone in the business.
Seems like we need to fill up our freezers.

I just got a 400 lb. Hanging weight side of beef, cut, processed,, wrapped and hard frozen for $2.00 per pound. It's from our family's small beef operation over in MS. Only reason it was so cheap. Freezer full. Gotta another coming in December probably. Gotta stay in good standing with the cousins!

Picked up a little over a 500# side last week. Almost finished doing the cutting myself, just the chuck left to go through. We are set for 2022 but can only hope 2023 isn’t insane. If it is we will just eat less beef and more deer/fish/duck/squirrel etc. Garden is getting going and the canners will be running hard this summer.

The deer meat in my freezer is looking better every day!
We'll be eating Hamburger Helper at my house when only the rich folks can afford the beef.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

I can't fit anymore in my freezer right now...I'm thinking about killing a young bull towards the end of the year just haven't made up my mind...if they start selling for $2 a pound I may just stick with deer n sell my bulls lol

The prices are being controlled by a consolidated processing market. 85% of domestic beef is being cut by 4 processors. They drive the price, not the farmers/ranchers. Talk to those selling their cattle and see how their reimbursement is going.
Also, the country of origin labeling is not truthful on a lot of "American" beef". If the cutting is modified in any way in America, you can label it as American beef. Completely phucked up system.
The small independents are the only way to go.
I just got a whole lamb, haven't bought a beef for many years.

I don’t know if that many farmers/ranchers are going to sell off a bunch of cattle just cause feed prices are high. Even if some folks start cutting back numbers it wouldn’t have an effect till further out, they’re gonna be between one and two when they get processed. That being said, I would expect the price of beef to go up in the store. But it’ll be mostly markup from the in between folks and higher trucking expenses. It'll be at whatever the processor wants to sell it at to the warehouses...the stores can do whatever they want but the competition keeps them in line...the farmers get screwed everytime tho...I've been on both ends of the spectrum...it's like Tikka said above

Out of state license, club fees, and fuel costs were why I got out of a deer lease in Georgia and started hunting close to home. Got permission to hunt some small parcels and I'm paying less than $2 a pound for a standard cut, vacuum packed deer at my processor. We do buy chicken and pork, but haven't bought beef in years.
