here is a map of where the real black belt is located in alabama! Im constantly reading people on here saying they have land in the black belt when they are no where near it! Usually if someone tells you they have a club or land for lease in the black belt and its cheap they are full of sh#%! In wilcox bb land runs around $15 to $20 an acre and clubs are between $2000 and $10,000 or its over hunted! If anyone would like to know of good to great clubs in the black belt area of wilcox give me a pm! Also if you have any ? about a club or area i can give you a honest opinion from someone who lives and hunt up here!

Well there's a lot of bs on here about clubs and leases! And all im saying is if someone wants to know about a parcel or a club in wilcox county i can give you a honest opinion of the area that your not going to get from the club president! There are a lot of great clubs up here but there are some that suck too!

A map of Mississippi and west Tennessee would show that "black belt" soil going north, from one I've seen before.

One thing about the "flood plain" areas is that there is some fine soil in those parts...is in Clarke along the river in those areas.

In my opinion the areas where the black belt and the flood planes intersect are the best but again big deer can grow anywhere it dont matter what you do or where your doing it it you shoot them when they are 3 they are not going to be all that big!

The "Black Belt" region is named that because of the soil?

I woulda sworn it had other implications.

They would have to name the whole state of Mississippi black belt if that were the case.

The name "black Belt" does refer to the soil type! Its a dark rich clay thats aweful to disk and usually you will see lots of cedars! Mississippi has some of the same soil type but not as much! The land along the mississippi river that produces all of the giant deer from the state is not the same soil!

Why cedars??? Would the area sw of Tuscaloosa on 20/59 have similar soil characteristics? There sva crap load of cedars in that area.

Cedars thrive in soil high in calcium content. Big deer grow in all areas where the soil has lots of calcium, not just in the black belt. btw, i cant stand it when people post in all small letters and use exclamation points as their only type of punctuation!

I just like how he is trying to make himself look like the "expert" as he points out common sense knowledge laugh

Correct, lots of red cedar growing in limestone in Northeast Bama. All those bucks need is time, because they'll get to better food than cedars like logged hardwoods ( both moutain and swamps) and row crops.

I guess the people that drew the map know better than me, but I always thought the moutains in Western Jackson and Eastern Madison are actually the Cumberland Plateau. The proper name for Skyline Mt. is Cumberland Mt., the Southern most moutain in the Cumberland chain.

Pines need mycorrhizae to grow well and the prairie soils do not support this fungus very well.
