My understanding is the patriots were originally designed as AA that was quick re-engineered to ABM defenses during gulf war 1. Pretty sure they can be used vs either now days.
The harder I practice, the luckier I get.

I also read today where the Ukrainians are mounting counter-offensives to drive the Russians out from around Kiev... Just the fact that the Ukrainians are not just on the defensive, but are now mounting coordinated counter-offensive operations is encouraging from their side and has to be demoralizing on the Russian side. If we get them some of the Patriot Defense systems that will knock a lot of Putin's missiles and airplanes out of the sky, it could really be a game changer in the war from military experts on TV. I thought we were already doing that with the stingers? I thought patriots were anti-ballistic missiles, not anti-aircraft? One of the retired generals was on TV last night touting the Patriot System saying it could do both missiles and aircraft. He suggested that Biden would be wise to get them the Patriots since he won't let them have the MIGs and since they are purely defensive Putin couldn't truthfully squawk that we were giving Ukraine offensive weaponry.
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

desperate generals who know they'll be shot if the don't win, and are shot by the enemy anyhow. so russian ... Even Putin has backed himself into a corner where he has to win soon in order to have any leverage to save his own arse. If it goes on too much longer one of his generals will take him out, either by assassination or by military coup. That would be fun to watch.

All males in Russia between the ages of 18 - 27 must serve one year in the military. Their inexperience is costing them their lives. Especially when you bite off more than you can chew and the country you invaded is more motivated to fight. Ukrainians are fighting for their lives when the majority of Russian soldiers just want to go home. Sucks to live in a communist country.

A few weeks? No way. Putin is all about being macho and the image he projects. Russia will drag it out and make everyone pay until they can't anymore. See Afghanistan. Russia had a lot of resources. They are a long way form that. They have been sending old equipment into Ukraine. They have been holding back most 4th and 5th gen fighter jets and other equipment. Maybe because he has plans for those, maybe because he doesn't think this war requires the risk. But he had a lot more power to bring. Russia won't be broken in a few weeks.

In other words you shoot down anything that flies in the designated area until nothing flies anymore except the people enforcing it. I'm sure if Ukraine could do it they would. If the US and our allies do it, and we start shooting down Russian planes, that would mean direct involvement in the conflict and that would mean that any of our military assets would be fair game for the Russians, which could very well trigger WWIII. I don't think any of us wants that. Of all the stupid crap the Biden administration has done, avoiding direct conflict with Russia is not one of them.
