Ok, so I hunted a stand very close to here before Christmas and had a big buck slip by me but it happened so fast, I decided when I came back I would change locations. I walked in down a little ramp with pines on my left and a hardwood bottom on the right. It took a little while to find the right tree so got set up a little late.
Watched several young bucks and does all morning. Some chasing, some just passing through. Text my buddy who was hunting the same property to see how long he wanted to sit till at 10:30. He said he was changing locations. So I just sat where I was. Wind started swirling some so I said I was gonna get down at 11:30 if I didn’t see any more deer. A little before 11:00, I heard some commotion behind me. I turned and looked over my right shoulder and saw this deer running toward me. I knew immediately I was gonna shoot. By the time I got my gun up, the doe he was chasing just passed my tree. I mehed, yelled, and finally got him to stop. He was about to get out of sight and across property line when he finally stopped. Had a not very good window at his neck and decided it was now or never. Shot and missed. Luckily, he wheeled around and came back toward me. I racked another shell in and settled on what I thought was his shoulder. He took off with guts hanging. Tried to rack another round(my last), but apparently in the mayhem, I mist have ejected it. Watched him trot off with guts hanging. I was shaking uncontrollably and upset knowing I made a bad shot. Text my buddy and he said sit tight. Waited about 2 hours and started the track. Nothing at first then started finding light blood, parts if internals, and fat. Finally stopped and could see a red spot up ahead. One of my buddies said there he is right now. I spotted him and he lifted his head up. Atbthis time I realized how big he actually was. Settled on his shoulder and lights out. Definitely my best deer ever. 10 point. Only weighed 135. Interested to see what his jaw shows for age
Gonna coat me another taxidermy bill

Gonna coat me another taxidermy bill You got lucky you did not lose him. Should have waited way longer to start looking knowing it was a gut shot. Glad you got him though. Thats a great deer!

Got multiple mature deer feeding from 7 am til 11am. Do you ever kill any of these mature deer you have moving in the daylight all the time?
