For 40 plus years I was in the woods every weekend. I just don’t have the urge anymore. Burnout?

I am not near as mad either. I still spend a lot of time in the woods "hunting". Don't kill near as much, it is a lot more about spending time in the woods and being with family than killing anymore to me.

This is season 3 for me, I just don't care for it anymore. I'd rather go fishing

Heck, I've been hunting deer 47 years and still just love getting out there. Though I spend all my time just watching them not shooting any waiting for a good one. I still love it. I like the pre season planting and getting stuff set up too.

I've been at out farm since Xmas since I'm semi retired and hunted everyday but one so far. I'll sleep in a lot and go out at eight, stay to twelve. But I have hunted almost every afternoon. My wife was joking with me today that am I ever going to go home? Or not until the seasons over? Lol. I told her you know me. thumbup

I’m hanging it up after this season. I took 3 years off and started back 3 years ago.
I’ve had some success and let a lot of decent bucks walk , but there aren’t enough deer for hunting to be remotely enjoyable.

I would trade seeing double digit deer every weekend for killing 2 booners, but I know our DNR isn’t going to help make that happen.

I'm sitting in a stand right now that I've been in since 1:30 p.m. No windows in shooting house to block the wind. The wind is kicking it here at the moment. I'm way underdressed and have done gotten cold. Real cold. The thought has occured to me more than once that my fat butt could be at the house, with a warm fire going, laid up beside my lovely wife. But no, here I am, out in the cold and the wind, freezing my tail off, trying to kill a stupid pine goat.

Sometimes I count myself amongst the ignorant... grin

I’m about the same but I do spend the weekend with my wife. I head out Monday morning and come back Thursday or Friday.

I haven't been mad at them for a long, long time. I've killed 1 deer in the last 7 or 8 years.
I still go a lot, I mean a lot. Still enjoy it as much as I ever have just not interested in killing
one just to be killing one. The thought of killing a really big buck still excites me.
I spend a lot of time year round on our lease. It keeps me going, it's what I do.
I've changed my expectations and priorities. I'll be 75 this summer and I'm happy and proud
I can still do what I do

As you get older you hate the cold of a winter morning and appreciate the extra sleep and a nice warm bed. Until turkey season opens. Then that’s all out the window and it’s time to get serious.

The cost over rose the desire several years ago. I can’t justify spending $2-3k on a lease and get to hunt 2 weeks out of the year when you add it up. Not worth to me. I go when I’m invited or have the opportunity but I’m not gonna pay for it anymore.

Quit on deer a few years ago. I’m still mad at turkeys though. Not really mad - I just still love it. As long as I can keep a place that has them to hunt I guess I’ll stay out there. The golf course is closed due to weather. I’m not an NBA or NFL fan. I may hunt deer again, but every time I consider it the idea fades🤷‍♂️. The desire to shoot a deer just isn’t there any more.

Probably be my last season. Grandsons are grown and busy chasing other white tails, don't really enjoy going by myself, and 99.99% of the time I just take pictures of them anyway. i can sit on the back deck and take pictures of deer. I've always heard that when it doesn't excite you anymore, you should quit. Think I have reached quitting time.

I've been hunting them for 53 years. Still do it quite a bit now because them and Squirrels are the only 2 game species of a decent Population. Would much rather be Duck Huntin' in Arkansas but that continues to go down Hill....TOO much Pressure I think. The days of good Dove Shoots and several per season along with Wild Quail hunting here has BEEN gone. My Turkey seasons are usually productive.....but haven't limited out in years....kill 2 or 3 pretty quick then.....Can't seem to find another to hunt.

The excessive regulations handed down by the DCNR have taken the fire out of me. I just want to go hunt instead of filling out forms or getting some extra crap on my phone that I have to deal with, and paying extra fee's for this thing and that thing. The DCNR has made hunting a real pain in the ass to do it legally.

I'm exactly the opposite, I'd rather just be able to see deer each time. I usually enjoy being out there and watching them. But, my lantern is running low on fuel right now. I much more enjoy dove, duck, squirrel and turkey hunting. It's more about the friendships and and bs'ing with good friends that makes all the difference. I think I would love quail and pheasant hunting if we had any around here. Most of my days sitting in a stand usually end up with me thinking about everything else I could/need to be doing. It has crossed my mind more than once to just buy a boat and crappie fish instead.
