Whats your preference

All I use is the Winchester 115 grain ballistic tips and they are awesome. Been shooting them for years and never had a problem

Interlock, that sst will want to grenade at those speeds

Barnes ttsx, fusions or sierra gamekings never had a problem.

Eld-x has worked great in mine

Out of those two choices, I would choose Interlock

I do like the SST for a 30-06. but I would be bit cautious in 25-06. and go with heavier for caliber bullet in the SST or the interlock.

I'd use what the rifle preferred. Accuracy is confidence building.

115 Berger VLD is what I prefer. I reload so I get to choose.

SST or Barnes TTSX. I recently switched to Barnes but I wouldn’t hesitate to go back to SST.

Pretty much anything, but GameKings. Those things were terrible in my 25-06. I prefer 110 grain Accubonds and 120 grain Partitions. Vast improvement over those dang GKs.

Gamekings are good bullets at moderate speeds. Wouldn't trust one at 25-06 speeds especially with a close impact. Can't go wrong with Accubonds and Partitions.

My 270 liked interbonds. Very accurate!

I agree with this statement. SST's are one of the most explosive bullets out there. Especially the light weight ones traveling at a high velocity.

The interlock SP is a way better choice. They are extremely accurate in my 25-06 and despite weighing only 117 grains I have yet to get one to stop in a deer.

May I throw in the wrinkle of “Where do you like to punch the hole in the deer” question?

Every single 25-06 bullet I’ve fired into gelatin blocks at 50 yards, either fully explodes at 8-12” inside gelatin…or has a big wound channel at that distance, and throws expansion pieces off and continues to penetrate deeper with significantly less hydraulic shock diameter from bullet center wound.

Shoot a 12” wide deer without contacting bone, and it will have a .257-ish entry wound, and about 1,5”
Exit wound.
Hit bone, and it’ll have a 3-6” hole out the other side.

However…if you shoot a BigBoy with an SST in a 25-06 through the chest, there may or may not be an exit wound. It doesn’t matter if it bang/flops where it’s standing…but due to what I’ve seen with my own tests with gelatin blocks and 25-06 through .338 Win mags…Barnes 100% copper solids, Hornady GMT 95/5% solids, H-Type bullet structures, Interlocks, etc…(front explodes off and rear of bullet punches on through)…those will just about always have a punch through exit wound.

Myself with a 25-06, I truly LOVE a high shoulder/spine area shot, or a neck shot. They rarely move in any direction but straight down DRT.

FYI-If any of you all want to do some gelatin block shoots sometime?…it’s VERY cool to see EXACTLY what your bullet does at a specific distance.

Anything above 3k FPS and you can have issues with Ballistic tips like the Nosler and Hornady SST. I’m a speed freak when it comes to hand loads. I like a 100g TTSX at 3350-3400 out of my 25-06. I’ve pushed them above 3500 but groups were just not quite as good. It hits like Thors Hammer. Killed 5 with this load and all were DRT.

I shoot the TTSX out of 7mag at 3300fps I’ve killed 5 bucks and 4-5 does with this round. 6-7 were DRT, had a 10 point run about 12 yards and pile up 3 years ago, a 9 go maybe 15 yards 5 years ago. I shot a 211lb buck last year at 43 steps, broke his off side shoulder with the first round and he took a step and wobbled a little so I put another one right beside it. He was dead on his feet. This year I shot a 198lb bucks at 195 yards and he didn’t take a step. 3 years ago I shot a 190lb Dallas County buck that was very hard quartering. Bullet entered just in front of hip and exited offside shoulder. I had to put another in him but he didn’t go 10 yards after the first shot.

The TTSX gives me confidence in getting a bullet to the vitals no matter what shot angle I’m presented. For this reason I feel it’s the absolute best option. But that’s just my opinion. Others may feel just as strong about a different bullet.
