This has been discussed for but I couldn’t find it.
When someone refers to a deers age as a whole number is that rounded up or down from the X and a “half” ?

Deer here are typically born in late august thru September, so we really don't have 1/2 years here.

So a button buck now would be considered a 1YO this time next year?

A button buck in my mind is a deer that was born this year so he’s about 3-4 months old. So yes a year and about three month next year.

Are you not 23 until you turn 24? Do we use half numbers to age ourselves? No. That’s why I use whole numbers. It doesn’t matter if a deer is born in May or September. He’s the age he is until he turns the next. Fawns are fawns until they turn 1. Then they’re yearlings because they’ve reached their first birthday. Then they are 2,3,4,5 etc.

I’ve literally had people argue about half ages as if it means something or is significant in some way. It’s not. 😂

Why can't we age them in dog years?😁
