A little tip an older guy that worked with my dad told him to pass on to me when I got my first bow was if you can’t sit on a 5 gallon bucket with your feet on the ground and draw your bow without pointing it up, you’re pulling too much weight. Took me 6 or 7 years to figure out that old guy was right. Numerous times over my bow hunting career I’ve had deer slip in and not be able to stand, forcing me to take a shot while seated. One of them was one of my biggest bucks.

I normally shoot 70#, this year I had rotator cuff surgery and bicep relocation surgery and shot a crossbow. If I'm able it'll be 70# next season.

When I had a compound, 58#, that's what I could draw sittin on the ground with my feet straight out in hunting clothes. Wouldnt be as much currently, certain of that!

Yea that I am. I'm shooting a VXR 31.5 now @ 70 lbs. Back in my younger and slightly dumber days I had a Pearson Spoiler set at 84 lbs.

I haven’t put mine on a scale but I have 70lb limb’s bottomed out. If I ever struggle with my form I will get a bow with 60lb limbs.
All the comments about being able to draw while seated with cold weather gear on are spot on. Practice with your system just like you are hunting.

70 now but will be 60, possibly 55 come hunting season. I’ve had some shoulder issues and it’s time to be smart about it. I have a 30” draw and with today’s modern bows and arrows I can shoot a 55# bow and get much better speed than the Bear Whitetail that I started out with in 1986.

I have a Mathews Outback 30" draw with 50-60# limbs maxed out and its like 62#. I like being able to draw smoothly, often shoot seated, and hold it long if need be (80% let off). I think i recall being told by a archery pro shop that bows usually shoot better / quieter with the limbs maxed out.

Used to shoot 67-68 lbs comfortably. I’ve backed off to 64. I also want to be able to draw sitting, kneeling, standing, upside down etc. 😁 Or when 7 degrees.
