I shot a really nice buck about 7:15am. He was quartering away when I shot, he was about to step back into the woods. I gave him about 30 minutes and went in to track him. Found a pool of blood about 30 yards from where I shot him and I thought I heard him jump up and stagger away so I backed out. Went back in about 12:30 and found some more blood but no deer. Dogs just showed up. You think he’s dead or alive? free image hosting[/quote] STORY: It was a long day. Shot him at 7:15am and the tracking dogs got on him about 5:00pm and he was barely alive in a super thick bedding area. He tried to stand up and the dogs pulled him down and the tracker stabbed him with a knife to finish him off. He made it about 700 yards into the thickest stuff ever. The tracker said if I hadn’t have called him the deer would’ve died and we never would’ve known what happened to him. There’s no way I would’ve gotten him without the dogs. Looks like the bullet blew up his front shoulder but never went all the way through him. He was super weak and bout dead in his bedding area when the dogs found him. Unforgettable hunt for sure. Gotta find me some better bullets for this 270 apparently

More information would help make a better assesment......What kind of gun were you using? How far away was he? Did you have a good solid prop to shoot from? Just going off the information we have it sounds like he probably has stopped at least twice in 100 ish yards after the shot and was bedded close to the shot as well.....This probably means he's hit hard and maybe its just hit back and in the guts but again more information would help confirm that

Maybe you’ll find him but that don’t look good to me. Nope. He went into the woods and just stood in the same spot for a bit. Looks like muscle blood. Find any hair where he was standing when you shot....?? Good luck and I hope you find him
