My big Tex utility trailer ( 6 months old) has decided that the passenger side shackle strap wants to move. It is moving towards the back of the trailer which is causing the entire passenger side of the axle to shift into the rear part of the fender, this is literally stopping the tire and roasting it. It’s not a bearing ad it spins freely when its lined up. It took me 3 hours to go 60 miles yesterday stopping 5 times to shift it back just to get it home. Once home I jacked it up took the tires off and moved it again making sure everything was tight. Got it out this morning and in less than 20 miles it had shift again. I carried it back to big Tex this morning but I know they are going to move it back tighten it and call it good. That’s not going to fix it. Any ideas. I really hope I’m wrong and they can fix it but I’m already afraid this isn’t going to go well. Now I’m forced to pull a 24’ trailer just to haul my buggy.

This is not an actual picture. The bottom of this is shifting in the direction of the arrow and going parallel with the bed of the trailer.

Pretty sure what you have circled is supposed to move. Your axel should have a peg on it that fits in a hole in your spring so that wont move unless your u bolts are really loose.

It does have a peg, I’ve called myself checking it out. where the axle and the U bolts are is staying good and tight. I agree that is supposed to move but once it compresses it won’t rebound and the axle gets crooked. I’m at a loss.

If that is moving but not moving back then it is binding or the bolt may be to tight. The front bolt should keep the spring in place, the u bolts keep the axle set. Is your fender welded to far Forward?

I don’t think so. I’ve pulled it several thousand miles since summer snd it just randomly started this yesterday.

Did you squirt WD-40 on it and hit it with a hammer?

I did and I also had to stop before I beat the fender off of it. I have also considered welding everything so that it can’t move

The silver piece is supposed to move. The spring gets longer as it compresses so something has to allow for that. I’d check the spring eye bushings first and then look at the springs to make sure you didn’t have a broken leaf.

Is say if spring isn’t broke it’s in the connection at other end of spring , equalizer if it’s two axles or front spring mount

Take a look at the spring hanger on the front of the axle. If it's broke it will cause the rear hanger to lay flat against the frame and kick everything out of whack. The rear hanger may not be the problem, it may be what is SAVING you from having a REAL problem!

Thanks. I’ll look into that

Also, if your not already, when you jack it up, use the frame just in front or behind the tire as the lift point. Let the running gear (shackles, springs, brackets) just hang. it may help expose a problem.

This would be my guess. The problem is in the front but showing up in the back.

Sounds like a tie bolt broke or bushing wore out

The leaf springs don’t appear to have much arch.
Shire is a picture of the front part of the leaf springs and the attachment to trailer.

God Bless,
