We have been fighting the roughest June in recent history, in the fishing business. The last week it has not gotten under 3 foot chop. This is just the icing on the cake.

Is it just me......

But, the past 2 years the Weather Gurus have predicted MORE storms than normal with hardly any activity.

Then, just a few weeks ago, they predicted fewer than normal for this year! LOL

There is no reason to keep any of them around except for the good-looking wimmens that report the CURRENT weather! smile

I "was" headed to DI this weekend but if it's not 1-2' seas, I just don't enjoy it.

Looks like that thing is coming right towards my chimney, at least with 4 or 5 of the projected routes.

First it isn't the pretty gal on TV making these season predictions, that is just entertainment. Its some fugly dude with a PhD in a cubical down in Miami.

Just because a bunch of hurricanes don't hit a major city(or even land at all) doesn't mean the season prediction was wrong.

Perception isn't always reality.
Normal is:
Total storms 12
Hurricanes 6
Major hurricanes 3

In 2010 there were:
Total storms 19
Hurricanes 12
Major hurricanes 5
The NWS Hurricane Center predicted 14-23 named storms, 8-14 named storms and 3-7 major hurricanes.

In 2011 there were:
Total storms 19
Hurricanes 7
Major hurricanes 4
The NWS Hurricane Center predicted 12 to 18 named storms, 6 to 10 hurricanes, and 3 to 6 major hurricanes.

...Now after posting all that, I think the Season predictions are pretty pointless even if they are fairly accurate.
What action are folks expected to take based on a above or below normal season? ...and even if a season is active and none his land the prediction is meaningless. On the other hand, we could have a very inactive year and 1 big storm hits NYC and the perception will be that is was a active year.

I would consider a hurricane hitting NYC to be a wonderful year. Flush the city clean of all trash. Literally and figeratively.
