The top 1 in the 2nd pic looks like a BSR, the bottom one not so much. All BSR skillets I've ever seen had the ridge on the underside of the handle like the top 1 has.

Agreed. All the BSR skillets we own have the ridge.

If you find one with the number that looks like it's hand written with a pointed stick, then that's a really old one. I have a couple of those.

No help with the manufacture. But it looks like a bacon cooking machine!

BSR was making cast iron from roughly 1920 to the late 1980’s (IIRC) - the early iron is called Red Mountain & around 1950 (mid-Century) they introduced their Century series iron which had the sharp ridge under the handles ... most of the older RM iron also had the sharp ridge, as well, but i’ve also seen smooth handles on some pans ... there was some bleed-over as they switched their molds out, but that’s a general ID rule ... some of the larger skillets in the Century series would have rounded/smooth handles 🤷🏻‍♂️

usually around here, if you pickup a piece of iron & there are minimal markings (only letters & numbers), most times, its more than likely BSR iron ... BSR iron makes killer “user” iron in the kitchen; rarely have i ever seen it warped/wobbly, like i have Wagner iron ... the other brand around here you find a lot is old Lodge iron, still made in TN

I want a corner piece of cornbread cooked in that. Extra crust.

BSR had a wedge cornbread skillet for this exact purpose - i’ve restored & sold a ton of em to folks over the years, many to folks on ALDEER

I would listen to what he says. He knows more about it than me,has even answered a couple of questions for me before. He knows his iron....
