New to using these finders. Any settings I should start at? 2D, DI, and SI. Hopefully I can get the kiddo on some crappie soon if I can figure out what I'm looking at.

I have a 93SV UHD at my console and the DI is very good for finding crappie stacked up on structure. If you're familiar with how to read side imaging it can be helpful as well. I really like the emerald green color scheme for DI. Did you get the GT-54 or GT-56 transducer?

I believe it's the 54. I'll know for sure when i get back home. I played with it one night fishing. I could see bridge columns and the road bed in Honeycomb on SI. I also could see what I though was bait fish on DI but it could have been clutter. I'll give the green a look when I can go back out. I've always been a bank fisher so electronics are new to me. Got a boat this summer and was to busy till now.

I would start out using the factory default settings on everything. I have no experience with the SI on a Garmin. Side imaging takes some "interpretation" to read on any unit. It just takes time. I don't get too excited seeing fish on SI unless I see shadows that accompany them. Watch YouTube videos on your unit. That will help.

Both the GT-54 and the GT-56 are very good transducers and have CHIRP capabilities. You'll be good to go either way.

This is good advice. I mainly use side imagining to look under docks, but now that I have a LVS32 I mostly use that to look forward, down, or perspective.

Not that I know very much about it, but I set mine on the Traditional setting and leave it there most of the time. It's amazing how much better it is than the units from long ago. Be thankful you aren't having to use a Hummingbird flasher from the 70s.

If I am trying to locate and hold a previously marked waypoint, I will split the screen between Traditional and Map. It's probably just due to my lack of understanding, but I haven't been able to benefit from the SI setting very often. I have spotted all sorts of things just using the Traditional setting and the defaults.

I have the 73sv UHD and I use the default settings mostly but sometimes I just have to play with it to see what detail I can get, then set it back to default afterwards. I agree with 7X57 about the green screen for down imaging. I just got mine this summer and haven't learned it very well yet. I do like the side imaging for easing up the creek channels looking at treetops and docks. I bought 7X57's old bird and never even installed it because I found a heck of a sale on the Garmin. I may still put the bird on there yet though. I'm not sure if the two units of different brands would interfere with each other. I've heard they would and I've heard they wouldn't.

I have two of the 93sv UHDs on my boat.......Very good units. Your best bet will be to search on youtube, lots of good on water setup videos to help you. This is how I got a good start learning mine. None of mine are set on factory setting anymore.
