Earlier this year I bought just under 40 acres near Atlanta where I work. I have hunted it a handful of times and only seen does. Today I decided to scout some new areas and came across 3 huge white oaks with a couple of scrapes and rubs around them. I decided I’d plop down about 5:30 and sit the evening out there, perched on a rock in my Turkey vest. I was also carrying a new gun - my hunting and fishing uncle passed this year unexpectedly, and gifted to me in his passing a Browning A bolt in 243 Winchester. https://imgur.com/a/rBAF4VvAbout 6:30 I heard noise in front of me and a minute or two later saw antlers banging the brush above the scrape. The deer worked the scrape for a few minutes, then started walking up the hill towards me. When he stopped I steadied and squeezed off a shot. He ran towards me at an angle then passed me and stopped behind some thin cedars so I shot again, and off he went over the hill towards the creek. Not being positive of the shots, I snuck back to the house and waited a bit. Went back out and found blood but lost the trail, so I walked ahead where I heard him going and found this. https://imgur.com/a/tLonOhISon of a gun died in the middle of the creek so the rodeo began. I went and grabbed a kayak, put it in downstream and paddled up to him thinking I’d float him down to where I launch boats. Turns out deer cause quite a bit of drag so I abandoned that idea and found a flat-ish section of bank. https://imgur.com/a/f2tk5fSA ratchet strap, help from my amazing woman, and a lot of sweat and I finally had my hands on the first deer from my own land. https://imgur.com/a/zXIRkHsHe’s not got the biggest rack, but he was a fatty. Thanks for reading!

Nice buck, great story. Pulling them out of creeks can be alot of work but definitely worth every bit for a deer like that. Congrats
