My grandma had lung cancer and they did radiation so it wouldn't spread to her brain. It ruined her! She was like a three year old kid the rest of her life. The whole family agreed that if we could do it over again, we'd take our chance.

It happened to my uncle. Lung cancer was initially found and treated a couple years or so prior to spreading to brain and other areas. Once it got into his brain it was very aggressive and obviously as it spreads there, had drastic effects prior to his death. I am not privy to all the details and sequence of things. Very sad to watch. I will say once it was in his brain the end came relatively quickly.

I assume you have a loved one affected by this, and am sure sorry if that’s the case. I hope others will come along and provide more promising/encouraging experience than mine.

Thanks M48, yes my brother. Never smoke or drank in his life. They said started in Lungs and spread to brain. He is on a pill to attack the specific DNA of this cancer, but now he coughs all the time, I mean all the time. Has lost lots of weight. Did 3 rounds of radiation on the brain. It just sad. Luckily my sister is a nurse and can go with him to all the appointments and provide support since he is single.

My mother in law was diagnosed with brain cancer in November of 2017, also had a spot in her lung though not sure they ever figured out if it was cancer or not. They told them the type cancer she had was very aggressive and gave her a year to live. I don't remember much of the treatments she went through, I had just lost my wife in 2016 and was drinking alot, but I do remember she took some of the experimental treatments towards the end to see if it would slow it down. By July of 2018 she couldn't do anything for herself and she passed August 28th of 2018. Cancer is a terrible thing. Prayers for your brother and family.

It is the fear

I had typed some stuff but if you want to pm me with what you're wondering about I'll see if I have any helpful info.

I dealt with this with my father and a close family friend in the last several years. I will say that individuals can react very differently.

Not swamp, but my dad lived 3 years after he was given 3 months. However, it didnt make to his brain until the very end. It was less than a month after they found it there. On a good note. He went from driving around living a "normal life" to passing away 6 days later. Three of which Im not sure he knew what was happening.

My close family friend had it progress to her brain and lived for about 6 weeks. But she was not aware of her surroundings for 3 weeks.

Got the news Thursday that they’ve found two small spots on my mom’s cerebellum.

I’ll be praying for all of them. I did 41 rounds of radiation and as I’ve told people the old saying I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy. I found the true meaning of it. Sad part chemo was worse. It’s taking me down so much physically from where I used to be prior. But I appreciate e everyday I still get to hang around. And I don’t let anything stress me anymore.

My uncle had brain cancer, metastisized from a melanoma. The way it was found was he began to have trouble speaking. They did a biopsy, surgery, chemo and targeted radiation. Pet scans came back clean. He was fine for a few months and then speaking problems came back. He decided he wasn't going to do radiation or chemo again and survived for about a year in hospice.

My step brother who worked at Honda and we smoked about the same length and amount, at least TWO packs a day for 45 years.

I quit last August with a final ONE cig. I remember pulling in the last draw.

Mine was the throat and I still remember just like it was 5 minutes ago the doc saying we have got to do a PET scan to make sure it hasn’t spread to your brain and lungs. That thought had never crossed my mind. It was a long 5 days waiting for results. I don’t understand every PET scan I’ve had done they do on Wednesday and I don’t get the results until Monday.

Mine was 45 years of snuff dipping, fortunately I quit smoking 17 years ago
