Honestly I think it was the truck muffler. The fire started under the truck. It was extremely dry.
And extremely terrifying for a bit. 😳

3 of us fought one 3 or 4 years ago, during the drought, that was started by a guy cutting an old lock off of a gate with an angle grinder. That one kicked our tails. I told my son's girlfriend to start praying for rain, and about 10 minutes later it started coming down. Had not rained before that for weeks. It was a much welcomed sight.

FIL started one on his place while bushogging sage field. hit a rock, caused a spark, wind hit it and woooosh it took off... He hopped off tried to put out with a jacket and pine tops to no avail... He got back on the tractor dumped the clutch on the tractor and stalled it, it failed to start back up. Lost a good tractor in it but he was VERY LUCKY.

Wow. That would suck. My luck too.

Flip side to that. My buddy was pushing debris into a burn pile. Tractor died and burned to the ground. Insurance pays him some stupid amount. He buys cab tractor. His dad rebuilds the old tractor. Now he can ride in the A/c or do chores with the rebuilt Frankenstein tractor.
Lucky SOG always comes out like that.

Don't blame me for your bad decision-

If you don't have much experience with burning from nd someone that does and get them to help. Burning off fields can be super simple, but at times it can be really sketchy. If it's too dry or windy don't force it.

Burn them at night. The temperature drops, humidity rises and the winds usually calm down. All of these can turn a raging blaze into a puppy dog. A slow moving, low fire is perfect for plots and is a lot easier to handle.

After you spray them there is a lot of stuff left on the surface. Burning releases nutrients, removes SOME weed seed and makes it a million times easier to till.

Do you have to be a burn manager to get a burn permit?

No. Calling it a burn “permit” makes it sound much more official than it is. You just call the forestry commision and they ask when and where you’re burning and that’s pretty much it.
