We've never planted any brassica in our plots in coosa co. I know the deer on my place in shelby co will mow em down but I've always heard folks say their deer wouldn't eat them so I'm reluctant to plant many to start with. Thinking about planting brassica and radishes on half of the feild and cereal grains on the other half rather than mixing it all together.

I’m gonna plant about an acre or so this season of nothing but sod buster radishes and purple top turnips. See what happens.

My deer eat the hell out of them.

I’ve seen them take a season or two to get a taste for them, but when they do they’ll eat them readily.

My club is in Coosa County and I have been planting WMS Deer Magnant and Buck Busters seed for 10 years. They are full of Brassicas seed, Plant the in a blend like these two. Other seed feed the deer in Oct, Nov and part of Dec. Then the Brassicas turns to sugar after a couple of good frost and the deer go crazy. By then they are way up and last all winter long. They have great protien also.

Throw a pound or two of turnips or radishes into your cereal grain mix and let it ride........

Yes and they like Chickory in the summer as well.

I think youll be more satisfied if you use kale and rape or just kale instead of turnip greens. Some deer wont eat turnip greens, yours might but some wont

We’ve been doing daikon/groundhog radish and winfred turnips for a while now. With the right soil conditions and proper fertilizer we can get massive quantities of forage. Winfred produces a much larger leaf that most other brassicas. We will typically mix some clovers and grain seed in with the brassicas. (Somewhere around 20lbs/acre). My buddy is about 5’10” for size reference.
