Going to be staying in Navarre the 4-11. Does anyone have any fishing reports for the ocean side? Definitely going to try the pier and going out on kayaks one day.

Not many reports over on the GSPPF
This was from last Wed...Probably not too many reports since then with the storm roughing the Gulf up a bit

Well I went after class at 1220 today. Got there and watched a huge squaw line (thunderstorm) go completely around us. I could see the rain hitting 98 and not a drop on me. Wind picked up and the waves were rolling very good. LY's, threadfin, small, medium and large hardtails, AND cigar minnows if you could snag them) were available for an enterprising fisherman When I got out on the Octagon 1 king had been stolen by flipper and two others broke a leader or cut the line. Dolphins were a pain and sharks were there but I never had problems. Just before the wind died a king came over the rail about 20#s but then nothing till about 630ish when a spanish was brought over while racing flipper for it. Ramora were a huge issue like Ive never seen before. They were attacking everything from diamond jigs to x-raps and of course all natural bait too.

I left about 815 p.m. when it got too dark to really fish.

Looked on the Pensacola Pier Fishing forum and last report there was back in July

I was there yesterday. The water is just now clearing up from the hurricane but not where it should be yet. They were catching Spanish, ladyfish, and hard tails yesterday at the pier. Kings, mahi, and blackfin should show up when the water clears. There are usually trout and redfish around the small bridge going on to the beach, along with some giant black drum.

I'd say get there early and go to the end of the pier and fish bubble rigs and gotchas for Spanish. I'm not sure what's around as far as bait but bring a few cigar minnows and a sabiki if you want to fish for kings.

The Navarre Newspaper report from today: "As of 10:30 AM today: Red, Spanish, Catfish, Yellow tail and hard tail has been caught." Personally I've never met a redfish that could turn down a big, fat, crunchy sandflea. Good luck.

After watching a few YouTube videos I’ve noticed they all use sand fleas and they hammer anything from blackfish to bull reds. Definitely gunna use them and shrimp

Sandfleas are MUCH easier to locate at night.

Most of the redfish caught at Navarre pier are sight fished. There are always plenty hanging around the pilings near shore. You can easily see them on the bottom if the water is clear. Toss any live bait you can find at them and let the bait settle in to the school. Don’t use any weight, but do use around 30lb mono leader. Braided line is a must if you want to get them out of the pier pilings. Most of the locals don’t target them, so most of the time you will have them to yourselves. I see them almost every day.

I actually wrote a book on how to fish our Gulf Coast piers, but am currently sold out. When I finally decide to have new copies printed, I will gladly send some of you “newcomers” a free copy.

I fished over there a few times during the oil spill being our pier was shut down. It was a blast from the past, took over a hour to get past the pier house due to seeing Patsy, Moore, and Frank putting around on his scooter. The last time I fished over there was after Fredrick when we got destroyed. I have an old black & white photo somewhere from the early 70's with around twenty long haired dudes with cutoff blue jeans standing ON the rail during cobia season, were you one of those guys?

I could very well be in that picture. We all stood on the rail and cobia fished backed then. Patsy has moved to Georgia and her health will no longer allow her to fish. Frank passed away a long time ago. If you find the picture, post it up. I would love to look at it.

Will do.. I guess it would have been Arin or Opal that took out the pier and that's when Coon Dog started fishing more over here. After he got to know me, I told him I wanted to learn to pompano fish, his way. Couple weeks later, I got the green light to join him and the man took me to a lot of places for many years. One of my favorite people to fish with, no telling the hundreds of miles of beach we walked on Perdido Key.
