It's just another hobby. Something to tinker with and customize.

I have been wanting one for a while but it wasn't something I "had" to have but finally broke down and got one yesterday. To me it's just something else to take to the range with the family.

I bought one a few years ago I guess because they looked cool and I just wanted one. I did however step up to a 6.8 caliber and I use it for hunting instead of a plinking gun. It is actually a very sweet shooter.

Some people like military style firearms. To me it's no different than collecting M1 Garands, Mausers, M1 Carbines or any other military style firearm. Unfortunately the craze has driven the price of the rifles and ammo high. They are a hoot to shoot too and can be very accurate rifles. Lots of people are using them for Varmint guns these days.

If you like to shoot and you ever shoot one then you will be hooked. Ive burnt through many full clips on sever ldifferent ones, and still have no desire to own one. I'd rather shoot skeet.

If you like to shoot and you ever shoot one then you will be hooked. They are a lot of fun. My recommendation, if you have the time, is to build one. Buy a complete lower and the build the upper to what ever you want. Much cheaper this way. I built mine for about $650 with a 1:7 twist rate so I can stabilize the heavier bullets. With a 50 yard zero you are +\- 2.5" out to 300 yards. Sighted mine in last week and you could cover 7 shots with a nickel. Not bad for an inexpensive home built upper. This is what I like to do. I usually build 2 or 3 a year.

makes no sense to me. I have a buddy that just paid 1300 bucks for a suppressor and the license to build a gun with one on it. I can shoot a yote, deer, zombie, can, or anything else just a dead but at a farther range. I don't like to know I have another shot after the first. If I depend on that second shot then the first won't be so accurate.

that said, I would only buy one in .308, .243, 6.5grendel, or the variation because I can't see the justification of a .223/5.56 taking up space in my safe.

It seems there is just a difference of opinion on them. I don't really see why anyone needs to explain or justify why they prefer certain styles of firearms. People that like them will never be able to explain why they like any more than someone that likes 1911s can explain why they like them to someone that doesn't. Don't want one? Don't buy one...just don't interfere with someone else's ability to own one.

x2 what Skullworks said
They're fun to shoot, fun to build, fun to hunt with and part of a long history of military rifles adapted to "sporter" use.
I don't have one yet, but I will.
