Last good dove shoot I went on was 2013....I killed 1 shy of what would've been my first limit and burnt up half a box of shells trying to get that last bird, but apparently forgot how to shoot at the end of the day. Prior to that, I was hitting everything I shot at. In fact, now that I think about it, that was really the only good shoot I've ever been on...it's the only time I've killed more than 2-3 birds on a hunt and I've been on several where I never fired a single shot. We did one the following year - 2014 - and didn't have any birds. I believe I killed one bird. Haven't been on dove hunt since.

Seems there's just not nearly as many folks doing them anymore like they used to.

Serious question after reading some of these reply’s. What would you pay for a jam up dove shoot? I’m not talking about being fed a fancy lunch and all that, I’m talking about a dove killing hunt. Past 6-7 years everyone that’s hunted with us (10-15) people has killed their limit (or had an opportunity to kill their limit). I can’t help you shoot 6 boxes and can’t kill 15. Couple hunts a year and some winter hunts as the birds filter back in.

50-100. Throw in a good lunch and a gun raffle and you could get 100 easy

$100 up to 250 if you got the birds. Feed lunch and have stands marked

In today’s economy 50 to 100 will get you most likely on a public land hunt. Preparing a good dove field is expensive if done correctly and getting more expensive by the day. The general opening day tag along with a buddy for a free good time is becoming non existent.

It is expensive. We have about 4 grand in this field now and that is with us doing all the
tractor work. If you had to pay for the ground prep, planting and spraying by the hour it
would probably double that.

Liability and the headache of a pay hunt would be a nightmare to me.

I’m trying to build up organic matter in the ground for my greenfields. So I planted sorghum, brown top, and sunflowers. Birds ate well on the sunflower seeds. The rest is coming up pretty well. I’m going to cut strips in it and try to shoot some birds. Overall it’s probably 6 acres planted. This is a half hearted attempt at my first dove field. It’s a side gig for what I hope will be my best greenfields this fall. Generally I have plenty of birds, we will see about mid September.

3 1/4 dram powder. 1 1/8oz 7.5 of 6 if it's windy. Been the cause of death of thousands. No high brass needed.
