That’s cogon grass. Better kill it if you can.

Looks like a bunch of Callery Pears in the background. I can't tell for sure in the pic, but if it is you're going to want to be rid of those too. To find out for sure, try running nekid through them. Afterwards, if you are bleeding from several new puncture wounds, that's what they are.

I would panic if I had that anywhere near here. It is cogon and you better get a firm handle on it right freaking now.

Don’t disk it. It’s kinda like Johnson grass in the way that it can spread. It can spread by the seeds in the fluffy white part and it also will spread through the rhizomes or roots. If you disk it your spreading it.

Don’t cut it. Don’t burn it. Don’t walk thru it. Don’t get any equipment near it.

Spray it ASAP. And again later this growing season.

Oh yeah - and for several years afterwards.

Thanks guys. I knew ALDeer would have the answer. It thankfully is not my field but belongs to a friend of mine. I will pass the advice on so he can get it sprayed. He would say thank you for the info as well.

That's some bad stuff right there.

It's so bad, I'm afraid we're all gonna have that stuff just from looking at it.

Doesn't matter if it is your friends or not because it will soon be yours too if you live close enough. See if anyone at the local co-op knows what spray that would kill it. If they were not sure then I would consult your county ag extension and they will find out for you.

Some of the county forestry commission offices will spray it for you if you just call and tell them where it is.

1.25 oz of arsenal per gallon of water if spraying by hand or 32 oz of arsenal per acre if broadcasting. Add half that of a surfactant. DON’T ADD GLYPHOSATE. Spray 5-10’ outside the edge

Sanderson why do you say not to add gly? I’ve very successfully eliminated cogongrass from several properties with two applications of gly.

Gly definitely has its place in cogon control in areas where arsenal isn’t an option (around hwd and fruit trees and other sensitive spots). But if you’re treating with arsenal then there is no need to add gly to the mix.
