Has anyone used any do it yourself soil test kits? I’ve been googling and the Antler King Kit has the best reviews of the ones I’ve looked at. Just got a new lease and wanting to see what I’m working with.

Go to your local county extension office to get the free boxes and send them to Auburn, it is only a few bucks each.

I've been looking for one to use for my garden. A lot of variety with big difference in price, but not sure yet what's best.

As many have mentioned, don’t waste money on the diy kit. Send to Auburn University. You can select to have them email you the soil report in pdf format and that says mail time. You should have results in just a few days and know exactly what you need.

Definately more accurate than a DIY kit.

The biggest issue is the field sampling methods employed. There can be lots of within field variation and sampling error from people that don't properly lay out or harvest their samples.

These 2 resources are about all you need to know:

Alabama soils

soil sampling (sorry I used one I knew about)

If you know a kid going to school at Auburn (and you trust them to make the delivery) they can drop it off at the lab on Donahue. I did this and saved the shipping cost, about $10-15 depending on # of samples, and I got my results a lot faster.

My method is take a pointed shovel and gets softball size dirt food from three different places in the plot. Put them in a 5 gallon bucket and shake the hell out of it so they all crumble and mix together. Fill up your sample bag to the line from that.

Send to Auburn and tell them what you intend to plant, and they will tell you how to fertilize properly too.

Google Waypoint Analytical Lab in Memphis, TN. I use them for all my sod farm analysis. I could send Auburn one sample split three ways and get three different numbers. At lease Waypoint passed my personal quality control test.

I just swung by and no one was there so I googled it to make sure i still had the right address. But I did the whitetail institute mail in test. It seems pretty thorough and was right on track with what I assumed it would be. Mo lime mo lime mo lime.
