i've got a frog rod that i had "great intentions" for but honestly really never use -- thinking about converting it into a flipping/pitching setup, a la what this gentleman says in this video

any thoughts/advice before i go down this path?

this must be an inside joke! wink should i use Gary Klein's method instead? gotta say - ole Biffle's hell on the hook set LOL

my curiosity/interest in this technique was piqued last year -- while on the lake, i bumped into a friend -- after we chit chatted for a bit, he started pitching/flipping exactly in an area i had just worked over (i thought) pretty good -- first pitch, he hangs a fish ... i quizzed him later on in the day about how many fish he caught -- he didn't end up catching any more fish than me on the day -- but watching him do that, in the spot he did it in, left an impression

There's a pond that I sometimes fish that is essentially a graveyard for lures. Stumps and standing trees everywhere. Fishing a worm would get a few bites, but after being skunked one day, I changed up to a black/blue jig and trailer and started pitching into trees. Immediately started getting bites, and better quality fish than normal it seemed.

I was fishing with someone in a private pond one Saturday, we were fishing with a small Bill Dance jig. He cast and accidently landed in a brush top. Caught a 5lb largemouth. I learned something that day.

I have fished with Tommy. He taught me alot. Other than topwater it's my favorite kind of bass fishing.

Learned a lot about jig fishing from Perch. I keep 2 rods rigged with jigs at the cabin 24/7. One is 3/8oz pumpkinseed and the other is 1/2oz blk/blue....vary the trailer depending on conditions, usually a creature bait of some sort but sometimes as simple as a 4in straight or u-tail worm. Not many days you can’t load the wagon on Lake Martin.

Also....all jigs aren’t created equal. Charles Clemons aka Clem’s daddy, Tight Line Jigs....you’re welcome.

Frog rod will work, but I like a little more tip for pitching, personally. Flipping might not matter a lot.

thx guys for all the replies - i'm sure i'll suck at first, but hopefully eventually get the hang of it ... based on the replies, i'm guessing most of you use jigs -- no creature bait flippers in here??

I FLIP nothing but creature baits 99 % of the time. The other 1 % is a worm.

I flip creature baits or a 7" ripple tail worm for heavy grass 100% of the time. The worm slides thru the grass better.

I like those too. A buddy likes to fish the regular brush hog and he hooked a bass on Lay several years back that was over ten pounds and lost it at the boat on one of those. A great big fish bait. That was the biggest bass I have ever seen. Got several jumps out of it so got a good look.
