Yekrut and I are making our last run for the year. We are about 3 1/2 hours from our spot in Nebraska, hoping for a merriams to finish out my slam. It has been a tough year, but we killed a few in Texas and I managed to find one north alabama bird. Weather is supposed to be nice for a couple days, so I will update when I can.

The only trip I ever had to Nebraska was tuff - hunted last 2 days of season and place had been hammered - lucked out and got one
I hav killed a N FL bird but no Oceola - missing that one for a slam - not sure if or when I will try - FL expensive
Hope u get your slam

Well Nebraska kicked our butts. We had 3000 acres to hunt, walked over 15 miles and only heard 3 turkeys gobble on the properties. Two of them were jakes and the only gobbler on the place messed up and walked to Yekruts side of the tree. We rode around a couple hours yesterday and only saw a handful of turkeys from the road. It was beautiful country and great looking habitat, but there wasn’t any turkeys.

It was a fun but frustrating year, and I can’t wait to do it all again next year to try and find a merriam’s. Here are a few pics.

We stopped at one piece, but didn’t find any sign or turkeys either. The private ground was covered with old scratching, and the gobbler Brandon killed was full of corn, so our best guess is that the nighbors are feeding them and pulled them off. We figure the flood 2 years ago did a number on them too.

Brandon looks like he seen better days in that last picture.

Sounded tough, but at least you got to experience it.
