When you deer hunt how high do you climb? I assume by now you have nearly no aversion to heights.

You contracting for the home owner or electric company? Our co-op will get anything that will hit their lines, some jobs they use a contractor.

Homeowner. Around here alabama power dont trim anything that high. I cut it almost all the way down to the fork. Homeowner was afraid it would blow over. Big limbs had been breaking out of it.

I don’t think I could do that (certainly not physically, but probably not mentally) and I don’t have a fear of heights (or falling as some would say).

I am somewhat afraid of heights at times. If im on the 30th floor of a building looking off the balcony, i get that same weird feeling in my belly everybody else gets. I guess the trust in my equipment outweighs the fear of heights. What scares me is the saw kicking back and hitting me in the face or the butt of a limb i hang on a rope coming around and crushing my skull. Falling never really crosses my mind unless im way too high in a dead tree. Alot of people do jobs where they brush up against death every day.

What does ALA Power do when the home owner don't cut it and it falls across their line? Our Co-Op has a contractor with a super tall bucket truck , they turn him loose on stuff like that. They are really quick about cutting anything that might fall on a line. I had a couple of dead, tall pines next door that would have easily got the lines. They came out two days after I called and got them down and trimmed some other stuff.

If its dead, sometimes theyll come out and cut it. Not if its alive. Im not sure about their reasoning. Might be cheaper to splice the wire back together after it falls on it. I started climbing trees for a company who trimmed power lines. At that time, we sidestripped the trees and even turned the tops away from the wire. Not long after i started we went to trimming just above the wire, no overhang. That was about 25yrs ago.
