Hello all, I’m here today to beg for any information that the kind folks of ALDEER don’t mind providing me with. I am just moving to Alabama (Shelby County) and I have not even the slightest idea of my plans for the 2021 deer season other than that I want to tackle the Cahaba WMA. Any advice that could be shared would be greatly appreciated. I think I’m going to try to and spend most of my time in the woods this year at the Cahaba WMA but I’ve picked through different threads and have seen a lot of indication that it certainly appears I won’t be alone there any time during the deer season.

I just wanted to reach out to everyone on here and see if you had any suggestions even as far as getting there and how to even access the management area (Are ATVs allowed?). I’m not asking for gps coordinates to anyone’s honey hole, just any quick advice that might help me even start to access the area in order to start scouting for this upcoming season.

Thanks guys.

Bow hunt during gun season; you will have little competition, Preferably during the week

Yep. And you need to get out and walk and scout. And scout. And scout some more. It pays to be in shape and motivated even if you get your butt kicked. Bow hunting WMAs is a lot of fun, but still tough hunting. I think I had one good opportunity at a legal buck last year in about 20 sits. And I was lucky to get that.

And remember you will be dragging your kill out by hand. Go far enough and it will take you all day to get it out. Keep that in mind when you think about what will make you happy to shoot. I won't even consider shooting a doe for that very reason

Been there, Dirk. Great point ... I have been trying to review the Cahaba regulations - is it same as Zone A in regards to bag limits, antler requirements and Anter/Anterless?
