I was thinking about sitting against this tree but changed my mind when I saw it was occupied . My right foot was less than 12" from his nose for a minute or so, I was leaning against the left side of the tree. Natures finest camo and a perfect hiding spot , lying in the shadow side of the tree. He was actually very docile , I waved a stick in front of his nose , and tapped him on the head a time or two, he never tried to strike . He just recoiled into a tight coil and pulled his head in close . I gave him a pass.

Rattlers are not very aggressive snakes like cottonmouths or copperheads. We probably walk by them all the time and have no idea. Still wear my snakes guards

Same here, I got a little too close to him before I saw him though. I was gonna sit on that rock on the right side and lean back against the tree, could have been a bad day. I killed a big rattler there several years ago , bout the snakiest place I've ever seen.

Should of poked it in the head harder with yer stick . A rattle snake bite to the junk would be life changing.

I would have beat it to death with a stick then shot it for good measure

Our snakes aren’t aggressive. Hunt South Texas in late
season and you will see aggressive.

I respect them but their piss isn’t hot all the time like those Diamondbacks.

My dad almost stepped on a big rattler Saturday,him,my cousin and his daughter were easing down an old fence row heading to a gobbler and when he stepped by him he rattled and dad jumped back,said he was less than a foot from him and he could have bit him if he really wanted to

We were working a turkey that was getting close and I told him just to be still and let him go on by.


Here’s an even larger one from down there. We saw several.

I used to not. That all changed after a fire ant bed incident. I even take a dim flashlight now to check around tree before daylight.

I sat on one 4-5 years ago and he never tried to strike me. I did tap him on the head a few times like 2Dogs but I may have tapped him a little bit to hard.
I always check around the tree now and in the morning before light I use my foot to make sure nothing is there.

I sneak into the woods a lot and just sit down - doing it for years - I may need to rethink. If I don’t get close to this turkey - it be hard to get close as I need to - he got hens closer than me - he been across line every day but one - I may need to rethink what I do though

I always set up in the dark. I have a plan every day I hunt. I always set up where I know I am close to a known roost site and plan on where they will pitch down too. Usually the same tree every time unless I gave noticed some changed.

We went to pick a guy up from a box stand that was sitting on the ground in Texas one morning. He wouldn't come out and was waving at us to come to window. Figured he had shot something, etc. Walked toward and he hollered "don't come any closer! there's a rattlesnake at the door and I think they are under the blind too!". Apparently there was a hole he could see thru and he saw the snake crawl by. Said he sat there with the gun pointed at the hole for the rest of the sit and could hear them moving under the floor. We didn't find snake, and when he came out of the blind that big man WAS MOVING!
