I had three gobble early this morning but all quit about 6:45. I stayed persistent with my calling and killed one at 8:00. He came in strutting but silent.

Were you in the same spot the whole time, or moving around/after the birds?

Had to watch a rarely old smart looking bird strut 150 yards to about 25 today about 10:30 for me to educate him on how tss sounds coming by in a wod. He never gobbled a time

We had a similar type experience in Wilcox this past weekend. Heard a number of gobblers before daylight, tried to get close to one but he disappeared, and then they all shut up completely around 7:15. Got a couple of gobblers to gobble as we were walking back to the truck around 10:00, but they would only gobble once and then shut up. I'll be more patient next time!

Sometimes ,they come in silent , because they are not the one that gobbled and are just being careful.
